James "Jim" Allen Jones, III

James Allen Jones, III (Jim) passed away at home on March 1, 2025, after a brave battle with interstitial lung disease. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna Stubbs Jones, daughters Julie Marie Herring (Kyle) and Jennifer Dean Gajan (Paul), grandchildren Jacob DesOrmeaux, Joshua DesOrmeaux, Allison DesOrmeaux, Jamie DesOrmeaux, Abigail DesOrmeaux, Jackson Gajan, step-grandchildren Justin Gajan, Tyler Gajan, Ryan Gajan, Courtney Gajan Marcum, Caiden Herring, six step-great grandchildren, and numerous other family members. He loved them all. Jim was born on March 11, 1949, to Naomi Lindsey and James Allen Jones, Jr., in Fort Worth, Texas. After graduating from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, Jim continued his education at Texas Christian University and received a Bachelor of Business degree in 1971. Jim had a 44 year career as a Salesman in the oilfield. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, where he often volunteered as a substitute Sunday School teacher. Jim was a blood donor for years, until his health prohibited his donations. He enjoyed many years of league bowling in Fort Worth and Lafayette. Over the years, he also held memberships in several area golf clubs and played as often as possible. Jim participated in Mardi Gras Krewes, beginning with the Krewe of Oberon, which he joined to give his girls a wholesome activity. He served on the Board of Directors, and also as President. He became a member of the Krewe of Karencro in 1990, where he also served on the Board of Directors, and had the honor of reigning as King Louis XVI. Jim’s greatest pleasure was the time he spent with his wife, girls, and grandchildren. He was the kind of Dad who chauffeured the girls to dance practice or sports activities. This continued after the grandkids were born. Whether it was football, baseball, or a church activity, Jim was the designated driver. The kids knew if “Pappy” picked them up, they would get a nice treat on the way home! Girl Scouts selling cookies, Boy Scouts peddling popcorn, or a school selling candy bars knew they would have a good sale if they went to the Jones house. Visitation for Jim will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA at 9:30 for family and beginning at 10:00 am for all friends. Visitation will continue until an informal funeral, led by Chaplin Rick Julian, at 2:00 pm. We invite any attendees to bring along a favorite memory or humorous story. A graveside service will take place on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at Stubbs Family Cemetery in Wiggins, MS. All arrangements will be entrusted to Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette.
