James Lowell Landry

Funeral services will be held at a 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 20, 2012 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for James Lowell Landry, 80, who passed away on January 14, 2012 at 3:12 pm at The Methodist Hospital. Reverend Michael Guidry, Pastor of St. Peter Church in Morrow, LA, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. James "Jim" Landry, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late John William Landry of Leroy, Louisiana and the former Julia Bellard of Iota, Louisiana. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War, and was actively involved in many organizations including The Pinhook Rotary Club, USL Red Coat Club, Chamber of Commerce, American Red Cross, Lafayette Junior Achievement, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time at his camp in Lake Arthur. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha Thompson Landry of Lafayette; one daughter, Lynette Zaunbrecher and husband David of Houston, TX; one son, James "Jay" Lowell Landry, Jr. and wife Jodi of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Brennan Zaunbrecher and wife Lindsay of Houston, TX, Katie Zaunbrecher of Houston, TX, and James "Trey" Lowell Landry, III of Lafayette; two great grandchildren, Callie and Sydney Zaunbrecher of Houston, TX; and one brother, John William Landry, Jr. and wife Eva of Jennings, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Special thanks to Joyce Dugas, who for the last 36 years has been such a help to "Poppa" and the rest of our family. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Ken McCarron and the transplant team and staff at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will continue on Friday from 8:00 am until time of services. A rosary will be recited at the funeral home Thursday evening at 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Mr. Landry to LOPA (Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency), 3545 N. I-10 Service Road, Ste 300, Metairie, LA 70002. Pallbearers will be Brennan Zaunbrecher, James "Trey" Lowell Landry, III, Herbert W. Thompson, Larry L. Babineaux, Robert William Landry and David Scott Landry. Honorary Pallbearers are John Reed, Robert Tujague, Richard Poche, Kim Guidry, Joe Katz and his lunch buddies at Deano's.
