James Howard Turner

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 15, 2022 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for James “Jim” Howard Turner, 91, who passed away on October 7, 2022, in Lafayette, LA at Brookdale Assisted Living after a brief battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Dr. Howard Turner and Estelle Stagg Turner. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Jan Brasseux Turner, and his brother in-law, C. J. Myers. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers on Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be at the Masonic Cemetery of Lafayette. He is survived by his sister, Miriam Turner Myers and his four children and their spouses, Ruth Turner Rowell (Kevin), Roger James Turner (Linda), Louis Howard Turner (Karen), and Martha “Mattie” Turner Patterson (Lance). Grandchildren include Amy, Ben, Sarah, Lauren, Lindsey, Jane, Rachel, Nick, Anne-Marie, and Meghan. Great-grandchildren include Noah, Abigail, Millie, Aurora, Everett, Hains, Estelle, Catherine, Ava, Nathan, Eloise, Alice, Barrett, and Remi. Pallbearers will be Ben Rowell, Nick Laque, Lance Pefferkorn, John Andersen, Hunter Welch, and Michael Foust. Honorary pallbearers are Cameron Davis and Matt Greenwald. Jim was a 1948 graduate of Lafayette High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from SLI (ULL). He was a Navy veteran, serving at sea on the USS Waccamaw during the Korean War. He loved working in South Louisiana in oilfield/industrial sales and flying a seaplane calling on rigs along the Gulf Coast early in his career. Jim loved the Lord and had a servant’s heart, helping to found and build the Community Baptist Church of Lafayette and the Bible Center Church in Luling, LA. He volunteered time and services with many organizations including SCORE, Habitat for Humanity, and the Lafayette Community Health Clinic (St. Bernadette’s). Jim, a 32nd degree Mason, was active for 66 years and a former Grand Master of Hope Lodge. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Brookdale Assisted Living for the tender care, compassion, and love they showed to Jim during the last three months.
