JANIE G. JACKSON

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Bechet House in Carencro, for Janie, who passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013. Janie was born on September 30, 1944. She was 68. Janie's passion for all people was greatly reflected by the two careers she held as a teacher and librarian in several Lafayette Parish Schools, and as an Attorney. As a life- long and voracious reader, a career in Library Science as a librarian was the pursuit of a passion more-so than a job. After twenty years as a teacher and librarian, Janie pursued a career in Law. She attended Southern University School of Law and received her Law Degree in 1991. In 1992 she opened a Law Office where she practiced various specialties, including family law, adoptions, and social security. Janie was always there to help anyone in-need, especially mothers and children. These passions were further reflected in her charity work with Faith House and The Extra Mile. Janie was a true humanitarian, who sought to assist rather than seek notoriety. No matter how short a period of time she may have known you, she always gave a word of encouragement, or an idea for success. Janie also had a passion for life. Everything was an adventure to be experienced without fear. If she wanted to do something, she did it; let anyone tell her she couldn't. She always said she was blessed and cursed at the same time. Blessed to know when something was going to happen, and cursed because no one would believe her when she told them. She loved to eat, cook, and experiment with new recipes. She had a "green thumb". She loved plants, and everything she touched brought beauty into her life. Her family and friends were very important to her. She loved having them all around her on Sundays. No matter how busy she was, she always had time to call her friends to make sure they were OK. Janie was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, George and Frances Mamalakis of Opelousas; and her father Messu "Mike" Gorab of KY. Janie is survived by her mother, Marguerite M. Gorab; two sons, George A. Jackson and wife Ginny of Lafayette; and Jonathan J. Joubert and his wife Cheramie of Lafayette; and her pride and joy, grand-daughter, Georgia Rose Joubert. Janie was the luckiest person alive. No matter where she went, she always won the door-prize. The family would like to thanks all the folks at Paramount Hospice, caregivers, friends, and family who were with her at the end.
