Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers, for JoAnn Rose Russo Mahfouz, 82, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Entombment will be held in Calvary Mausoleum. Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. JoAnn was born in Alexandria, LA and moved to Lafayette in 1951, after marrying the love of her life, Raymond Mahfouz, Sr. Her passion was cooking and her home was a gathering place for family and friends to eat and visit. She shared recipes and taught many family members and friends how to cook Italian and Lebanese meals. Her home and her heart were always open to anyone in need of a good meal or a confidant. Her children and grandchildren relied on her for her wonderful support and advice. She was a loving, unselfish and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. One of her greatest attributes was teaching her children and grandchildren to lead a good Christian life and to treat others with respect and love. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her three daughters, Sharon Hadley and her husband Mike of Soquel, CA, Sandra Delhomme and her husband Duane of Lafayette and Michelle Mahfouz; three sons, Raymond Mahfouz, Jr. and his wife Judy of Youngsville, Stafford Mahfouz and his wife Janet of Manassas, VA and Louis Mahfouz and his wife Nadine of Lafayette; twelve grandchildren, Tara Boone, Melanie, Elizabeth and Christopher Mahfouz, Casey and Lacey Cowden, Tiffany, Lauren and Louis Mahfouz, Jr., Devin and Damian Delhomme, M.D. and Adam Domingue; thirteen great grandchildren, Hannah and Blake Martin, Isabelle Mahfouz, Emily and Madison Mancuso, Kagan, Kooper and Kohen Boone, Cassia and Cash Cowden, and Gracie Mae, Dillon and David Mahfouz; four step grandchildren, David Clark, Jr., Nathan and Caleb Hadley, and Cassandra Grubbs; two step great-grandchildren, Kieran and Olivia Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one brother, Richard Russo of Alexandria, LA and her loving dog, Charlie Boy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Mahfouz, Sr.; parents, Joseph Louis Russo, Sr. and Pearl Bordelon Russo; one grandchild, Alexandra Domingue; and two brothers, Joseph Louis Russo, Jr. and John Russo. Pallbearers will be Raymond Mahfouz, Jr., Stafford Mahfouz, Louis Mahfouz, Sr., Duane Delhomme, Damian Delhomme, M.D., Louis Mahfouz, Jr. and Richard Russo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Casey Cowden, Adam Domingue, Christopher Mahfouz and Richard Russo, Jr. The family requests that visiting hours be observed in Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand on Monday, September 1, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM on Monday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jody Rossen, Jr., Dr. Brad Broussard, Dr. Stephen Salopek, Dr. Mike Mounir (Mnayer); and the doctors, nurses and staff of Lafayette General Medical Center and LTAC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a special fund set up for Mrs. Mahfouz's grandson, David Mahfouz, who has extensive medical needs.
