John "Jack" Charlesworth

Jack passed away peacefully at home in Lafayette, Louisiana, on July 18, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by his family. Jack, a longtime resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late William Edward Charlesworth Sr. and the former Dorothy May Delozier Charlesworth. If you knew Jack, you probably laughed with him—or at the very least, rolled your eyes at one of his perfectly timed one-liners. He had a sharp wit and a soft heart, and he never missed a chance to lift someone’s spirits, usually with a grin and a comment that was half-grumble, half-gold. He found great joy on the golf course, especially when playing alongside his buddies. Those games were more than just sport—they were about cutting up, swapping stories, and stretching a good day just a little longer. Jack’s life wasn’t flashy, but it was full. Full of stories, full of quirks, full of love. He had a habit of turning ordinary moments into memories—and those are the things we’ll be telling (and exaggerating) for years to come. His “dad jokes”, Sunday BBQs, and the way he’d claim to be “watching the backs of his eyelids” while napping in his recliner - all of it lives on in us. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Dorothy Frances Dixon Charlesworth; his children, Susan Charlesworth (Bill) Rimmer and Ken Charlesworth; his grandchildren, Mary-Claire Rimmer, Sadie Mitcham, Chantel Charlesworth, Chey Charlesworth, and Dakota Charlesworth; and great-grandchildren, Scarlet Carlton, Carson Porsch, and Isabel Charlesworth, his brother, Fred (Marilyn) Charlesworth; sisters-in-law, Catherine Gibbons (Bill) Myers and Peggy Gibbons Hayes; brother-in-law, Jim (Donna) Gibbons; and mother of Ken's children, Tonya Charlesworth. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Charlesworth; brothers, William E. Charlesworth Jr. and Lou (Bea) Charlesworth; sister, Margie Charlesworth (Ray) Youngbauer and twin sister Joy Charlesworth (Bob) DeChane. As for a service - well, Jack wasn’t one for big ceremonies or somber gatherings. we’ll be celebrating his life the way he would’ve loved most: with a BBQ and plenty of stories.
