In Loving Memory of John Wyman Royston. A Christian Mass will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, Louisiana, in remembrance of John Wyman Royston, 77, who passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025. Father Andrew Schumacher, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church, will serve as Celebrant of the Mass. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM, with a rosary at 4:30 PM, followed by the 5:00 PM Mass (all events will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Church). Mr. John, a resident of Lafayette, was the beloved son of the late Hoyt Hugh “Jack” Royston and the former Theresa Lucille Shelette. He was born in Pineville, Louisiana, where he grew up alongside his brother and four sisters, forming bonds that lasted a lifetime. A pivotal moment in John’s life came during his time at Bolton High School, when a teacher encouraged him to pursue higher education. John often credited that teacher with changing the course of his life, inspiring him to become the first in his family to earn a college degree. He went on to graduate from Northwestern University with degrees in accounting and psychology, a milestone that marked the beginning of a remarkable career. John served his country with honor in the Armed Forces and later worked for the IRS before founding his own accounting firm, John W. Royston and Associates, where he faithfully served hundreds of clients over the past 35 years. His professional achievements were many, but John’s life was defined by his boundless curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit. He was also a pilot, a donut shop owner, and a man who never hesitated to chase a dream. If something sparked his passion, he pursued it with fierce determination and joy. John had also served his faith and community as a Deacon at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Abbeville, Louisiana, a role that reflected his deep commitment to God and to helping others. One of his great devotions was to The Community of Jesus Crucified, in which he was a founding member. Above all, John would say his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was a devoted father to Jay Royston, Alyssa Royston Hebert, Shawn Royston, and Kevin Royston, and a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. If you asked him to show you something he was proud of, he’d likely pull out a photo of his family — the true treasures of his life. John’s legacy is one of love, perseverance, and inspiration. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the lives he touched and the family he cherished. He is survived by his children, Jay (Sonya) Royston, Alyssa Royston (Eddie) Hebert, Shawn (Mikki) Royston, and Kevin (Ronnie) Royston; grandchildren, Tricia Hebert (Joshua) Pontiff, Tylar (Blair) Royston, Brittlyn Hebert, Kennedi Royston, Carter Royston, Sye Royston, Ava Royston, Emma Royston, and Hudson Royston; great-granddaughter, Aubree Royston; Fiancé Daovan Sisamouth, her daughters Marissa Tran and Marina Tran; sisters, Kathleen R. McClaurin, Ruby R. (Richard) Brackney, and Darlene R. Williams; and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lucille Royston; mother of his children, Brenda F. Miller; brother, Ronnie Hoyt Royston; sister, Linda R. Garoutte; and brother-in-law, Lee Williams. Flowers may be sent to Holy Cross Catholic Church, on October 2nd between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
