Jordan Fournet Moss

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 23, 2022, in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Jordan Fournet Moss, 40, who passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness at Ochsner Lafayette General Hospital on October 15, 2022. Though Jordan called Lafayette home, he was a true citizen of the world. Seldom reverent, always entertaining, Jordan lived a large, full life. Even as a child, his exploits led him to share many adventures with his older brother & neighborhood friends. Jordan once told his mom he was “all gas, no brakes.” Jordan's global adventures began when home from college, he met a film crew discussing a shoot in Grand Isle, LA. Jordan advised them that their ideas “wouldn't fly in Grand Isle.” His contacts on that shoot resulted in his moving to Los Angeles to join the business. When he discovered that cameramen earned good salaries, he applied for a job, borrowed a camera, and over a weekend read the manual and taught himself how to shoot, and worked as a “stringer” in LA. Jordan's career was deeply rooted in nature and his adventurous spirit led him to work on some of the toughest survival shows ever conceived. His passion for natural history and the stories of people who thrived and struggled within harder environments took him on many journeys over land and sea, from a salmon filled Bristol Bay Alaska, to sword fishing in the Atlantic Ocean, to crab boats in the Bering Sea, and even seeing the land mass of Antarctica from the bow of a Sea Shepard vessel in search of illegal whalers in the Southern Ocean. He was known in the business for his willingness to trek the unknown in both story and location. This unique skill led to shows of justice and police chases in cars and on foot, often ensued. He shot in the relentless jungles of Central and South America, rafted treacherous rivers in the Yukon and crossed the continental divide in the Grand Teton National Forest, on horseback! He was called to duty by National Geographic, Discovery Channel, History Channel, Animal Planet, and A&E as well as many prominent production companies for special projects. His screen credits for Show Runner, Producer, Cinematographer, Camera Operator, etc., can be found on the shows Ice Road Truckers, Deadliest Catch, Whale Wars, Naked and Afraid, Swords, and Dr. Dee, Alaska Vet, among others. Jordan was a part of several Emmy nominated film crews and approached every day on set like there was a story that had to be told, even if the day began not knowing what that story might be. Jordan moved back to Lafayette from Los Angeles in 2020 after television production halted due to the pandemic. During the following three years, Jordan worked various film projects out of his studio loft in downtown Lafayette. Some of those projects will be continued by colleagues as a memorial to him. In addition to being a globe-trekking daredevil, Jordan had a big brain and even bigger heart. Though he would eschew the label “intellectual,” he read history books and newspapers, and delved into them deeply. When they wouldn't tell him all he needed to know, he researched even further, devouring United Nations white papers. It was hard to win an argument with Jordan over history, news, or politics. The greatest love of Jordan's life was his son, Emerson. When home, Jordan immersed himself in friends and family, taking Emerson on “man missions” to get done what needed doing. Jordan and Emerson's mom, April Peters, shared their adventure of parenting. Even when not physically present, Jordan actively co-parented with April. One last video of Jordan and Emerson shows them on their way to an uncle's funeral. In the video, Jordan is showing Emerson how to jump up and click his heels. In their suits, they both jumped and clicked over and over until Em gets it. Jordan loved his son very, very much. This is but a small sample of the story that was Jordan Moss's full life of love and adventure. He is survived by his son Emerson Moss; parents Jeff and Rebecca Moss; brother Jefferson Moss III; mother of his son April L. Peters (Thomas); maternal grandmother Elizabeth “Betty” Fournet; aunts and uncles Constance and Richard Becker, Brian and Gay Fournet, Stephen and Jennifer Fournet, Elizabeth and Dr. Scott Hamilton, and Claire Moss Ashy; and innumerable family and friends, at home and abroad. He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather Howard L. Fournet; paternal grandmother Ena Chauvin Moss; paternal grandfather Jefferson J. Moss, Sr.; aunts Joyce Moss Schexnayder and Aimee Moss Kolstad. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home-Bertrand on Sunday, October 23, 2022, from 12:00 PM until services at 3:00 PM.
