Joseph Adam Hebert

Funeral Services will be held at a 1:30 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church for Joseph Adam Hebert, 87, who passed away on October 11, 2010 at 8:40 am at Camelot of Broussard. Reverend Louis Allen Breaux, Associate Pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Mr. Hebert was born on August 23, 1923 in the Grand Marais area near Church Point, Louisiana. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be sadly missed. Adam Hebert, at one time, owned and operated Rose's Caf' along with his wife during the early 1970's and later started a career in Insurance Sales retiring from Security Industrial Insurance after 25 years of employment. His passion in life however was composing Cajun music. Mr. Hebert was a gifted song writer whose music is at the center of traditional Cajun repertoire. Adam constructed his first fiddle as a child out of a chocolate box and screen wire, later progressing to one his brother made out of a cigar box and horse hair. When his father overheard him playing for his sister and her beau in the parlor, he realized Adam's talent and ordered a real violin out of the Montgomery Ward catalog and he then began playing house dances at age 13. A few veterans formed a band called the Veteran Playboys with Adam following enlistment in the service. Adam played fiddle and sang lead. In the mid 50's, Adam formed another group, Adam Hebert and the Country Playboys recording 12 singles for Swallow Records during the 1960's. He has more than 50 songs credited to him, such as: La Pointe aux Pins, Le Moulin, Ouvre Cette Porte, J'aimerais Connaitre and La Valse de ma Cherie, which was used in the soundtrack in the 1975 Charles Bronson movie, "Hard Times". Although in recent years, failing health has made it difficult for Adam to perform, in 2003 the Fesival de Musique Acadienne at Festivals Acadiens in Lafayette, Louisiana was dedicated to him and his lifelong contribution Other awards include, The CFMA Chapitre de Lafayette honored on March 17, 2007 at Acadian Village in Lafayette. Mr. Hebert also holds the Key to the City of Mamou, Louisiana. "Some musicians just count from their mouth when they sing, they just speak. He is survived by his wife, Rose Hayes Hebert; one son, Kelly Hebert; one step-daughter, Eva Trahan and her husband George; three grandchildren, Randy Hebert, Melanie Stover and her husband Brad, Troy Trahan and his wife Selina; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Stover, Claudia Stover, Sawyer Stover and Cherie Trahan; and one step-great grandchild, Logan Angelle. He was preceded in death by his parents Polus Hebert and Clemence Daigle Hebert; his first wife Wilda Daigle Hebert; one grandchild, Steve Hebert, three brothers, Joseph Hebert, Gustan Hebert and Paul Hebert; five sisters, Ida Miller, Mary Doucet, Aline Miller, Eva Cormier and Mable Cormier. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 am until service time.
