Joycie Sonnier Comeaux

A Liturgy of the Word will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, December 15, 2022 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Joycie Sonnier Comeaux, 77, who passed away on December 10, 2022. Fr. Paul Bienvenu, Pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church - Leroy, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Comeaux, a resident of Maurice, was the daughter of the late Aron Sonnier and the former Agnes Gauthreaux. Joycie was born to a tight-knit and hardworking Cajun family. She grew up on her father’s farm and once described him as the hardest-working man she had ever known. Her mother was equally hard working and able to kill a chicken without batting an eye. She was also a very talented baker. She was one of four siblings and the eldest daughter. A native French speaker, she learned English once she went to school and helped to teach her parents the language. She was smart and a good student, but sometimes struggled because she would miss the first few weeks of every school year to help her family pick cotton. Still, she graduated at the top of her class at Scott High School. Later in life, she earned a degree in bookkeeping from a technical college. She worked as a telephone operator for years until the telephone company started phasing out the occupation. After she earned her degree, she worked as a bookkeeper for various office supply stores. Most of her years, however, were spent as a homemaker, a vocation she was proud to assume: she defined herself as a wife and mother first. She was a talented seamstress and kept her children clothed in rather fashionable attire during their years growing up and beyond. She was an avid RVer and—along with her beloved husband Joseph Wallace—enjoyed camping and became friends with many of her fellow RVers. She is survived by her daughters, Carmen Comeaux (Jerry Lee Duncan), Marcy Comeaux Delaney, and Alissa Comeaux (Tony Ragusa); granddaughter, Emma Delaney; grandson, Cole Scott Delaney; brother, Wilton Sonnier (Geraldine); sisters, Wilma Sonnier Broussard (Scurdy) and Geneva Sonnier Roger (Roland); and numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, MSG Joseph "Tee" Wallace Comeaux, Ret. USA; and parents, Aron and Agnes Sonnier. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Thursday, December 15, 2022 beginning at 9:00AM. A Rosary will be prayed at 1:30 PM on Thursday afternoon in the funeral parlor. Visiting hours will continue, following the Rosary, until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Jerry Lee Duncan, Tony Ragusa, Cole Delaney, Kevin Sonnier, and Mark Blanchard.
