Kern Michael Schlabach

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 16, 2007 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Kern Michael Schlabach, 25, who died suddenly Saturday morning, November 10, 2007 at the home of his parents, Mike and Connie Schlabach. Reverend David Baudoin, Pastor of Cross Roads Church will officiate at the funeral services. Musical selections will be performed by Kerri Campbell. Interment will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette. Mr. Schlabach was born December 7, 1981, the fourth son of a family of eight siblings. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 2000 and entered the Navy, serving a period of approximately two years, earning training in diesel mechanic operations. Currently, he was employed by BOP Control in Lafayette. He had an impish grin that could put a smile on anyone's face and leave you wondering what he was up to. One of the highlight of Kern's life was being allowed to spend time with his four year old daughter, Madeline Michelle. He could never understand why she never slowed down, and refused to listen. He was beginning to realize that the apple does not fall far from the tree. Kern struggled for many years with alcohol and drug addictions. He attended AA meetings where he was widely known for his inability to sit still for more than five minutes. Kern leaves to mourn his girlfriend, Crystal Tucker and their unborn baby boy, Eden Matthew of Lafayette; his parents, Mike and Connie Schlabach of Lafayette; his daughter, Madeline Michelle of Lafayette; brothers, Kyle Schlabach and his companion, Stephanie Daily, Cory Schlabach and his wife, Kelly, Colin Schlabach and his companion, Denise Benoit, and Cody Schlabach and his companion, Molly Royer, all of Lafayette. He also leaves three sisters, Caitlyn Schlabach of Lafayette, Cassandra Romero and her husband, Shannon and Cathy Coppedge and her husband, Jay, all of Abbeville; and his ex-wife, Kara McMichal of Lafayette. He is also survived by his nieces and nephew, all whom adored him and loved to have him play with them, Katelyn and Natalie Romero, and Layne and Jillian Schlabach. In addition he is survived by numerous aunts and uncles, and maternal grandmother, Romona Munyon of Woodlawn, IL; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Werner and Ada Schlabach and his maternal grandfather, James Munyon. The family request visiting hours be observed from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday and from 9:00 am on Friday until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Kyle Schlabach, Cory Schlabach, Nick Sarver, Layne Schlabach, Randall Martin, Chris Buchta, Jim Bush and Luke Goodrich.
