Larry J. Comeaux, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Larry J. Comeaux, Jr., 73, at 1:30 PM on Friday, March 14, 2025, at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette. Larry passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, surrounded by family at The Hospice of Acadiana- Calcutta House after a long battle with Cancer. The family requests visitation be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home, on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Interment will be at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Nicholas DuPre will conduct the funeral services. Larry’ s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He took immense pride in their lives and accomplishments. He was a devoted husband to the love of his life of almost 48 years, Cynthia (Cindy) Broussard Comeaux, a loving father to his two children Nicole Comeaux Zaunbrecher (Tim) and Timothy (Timmy) M. Comeaux (Jenny). He was the proudest “Pappy” to his four grandchildren Brice Zaunbrecher, Mia Zaunbrecher, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Comeaux and Lauren Comeaux. He also leaves behind his mother, Hazel Laperouse Comeaux, his two sisters, Stephanie Comeaux and Maxine Comeaux Hollier (Aaron), as well as his niece Ashley Hollier of New Orleans, LA. He is proceeded in death by his father, Larry J. Comeaux, Sr. of St. Martinville, LA. His maternal grandparents, Alexson and Ella Laperouse of Catahoula and paternal grandparents Lucien and Alice Comeaux of Lafayette. A native of St. Martinville, LA, Larry graduated from St. Martinville High School in 1970. He attended USL and Nicholls State University where he studied accounting and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity- Mu Zeta Chapter. After college he began his career in sales, beginning in the auto industry. He worked at various dealerships in the Acadiana Area, including Lafayette Motors, Dependable Dodge, JP Thibodeaux and Arceneaux Ford. In 1986, he left the car industry and began a career in the security industry with Acadiana Alarm Systems, serving as Director of Sales. He was Co-Owner, Chairman of the Board and Director of Commercial Integration at Acadiana Security Plus, LLC, until his retirement two years ago. Larry served as a Board of Director for many organizations in the Acadiana area, as well as in the Security Industry. He was a member of the President’s Council for First Alert (a division of Honeywell Security) and in 2017, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award for giving back to the community. He served on the Board of Directors for the Acadiana Home Builders Association and was awarded the Associate Member of the Year Award. He gave back to Acadiana and the surrounding communities by volunteering his time to cook for countless organizations and to support community leaders. He had a passion for cooking and was known by many for his “Spinach Stuffed Brisket”. He was also a big supporter of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and had a premiere tailgating spot for entertaining clients and friends. Larry passed away on his favorite holiday, Fat Tuesday – Mardi Gras Day. Being the gentleman that he was, he waited until the celebrations were over and passed away at 6:00 PM. He had such a love for Mardi Gras and was a committed member to several Krewe’s in Lafayette since 1986. He was a member of the Krewe of Gabriel, where he served as Royal Duke under the reign of King Gabriel LXXII. He was a founding member of the Krewe of Carnivale en Rio, serving on the board of directors in various positions. He served as the Parade Captain for the first 5 years. Under his leadership, the Krewe built a fleet of floats, making the Rio Parade one of the premier Mardi Gras events in Lafayette. He was honored to reign as King Dom Pedro III in 2008, he cherished those memories. He touched the lives of countless individuals in business, the community and through Mardi Gras Krewes, leaving behind a legacy of how he will be remembered. Larry loved spending time with his friends- fishing, hunting and entertaining. The stories they would share are priceless. Those friendships were near and dear to his heart, they were so special he considered many as family and treated them like family. He looked forward to retirement, so he could travel and spend quality time with his family at his dream lake house he just completed on False River and was only able to enjoy twice. Pallbearers will be his grandson- Brice Zaunbrecher; his sister- Stephanie Comeaux; his brother-in- laws – Kenny Broussard and Aaron Hollier; his god child Scott Blanchard, and Trent Labry – who considered as a son. The Comeaux Family extends heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Gene Brierre and his staff, Dr, Tyler Perrin Bellelo and her staff, Lady of Lourdes Regional Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center and the staff at The Calcutta House for their gentle and compassionate care.
