Lilly Lester Veazey

Funeral services will be held at a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 3:00 pm at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church for Lilly May Veazey, 90, who died Friday, March 30, 2007 at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas. Reverend John deLeeuw will be Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery on Teurlings Drive in Lafayette. Mrs. Veazey, a native of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late William Lester, Sr. and the former Marie Doucet. She was a member of the Bon Mort Society of Carencro and the Sacred Heart League. She loved a clean house, neat yard, and to go fishing. She and her husband always grew enough vegetables in their garden for the family, neighbors and friends. She always cleaned all the fish they caught, even the ones she gave away. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her daughter, Lucille V. Broussard, wife of Robert Patrick 'Pat' of Carencro; her son, Ralph Joseph 'Tommy' Veazey, Sr. of Lafayette; one sister, Esther 'Pie' Utley of Lafayette; one brother, Willie Lester and his wife, Leota LeBlanc of Breaux Bridge; nine grandchildren, Susan Broaddus of Carencro, Janet Wolfe and her husband, Sir Kevin Wolfe of Shreveport, Linda Dougherty and her husband Joseph Dougherty of Carencro, Ralph J. Veazey, Jr. of Carencro, Yvonne Duhon and her husband, David Duhon of Carencro, Robert L. Broussard of Lafayette, Philip A. Broussard and his wife, Michelle Breaux of Church Point, Roxanne Guidry and her husband, Kyle Guidry of Scott, and Elizabeth Schwerin of Linden, North Carolina; eighteen great-grandchildren, Heather Spivey, Gretchen Wolfe, Brady Wolfe, Ryan Guidry, Chris Duhon, Casey Dougherty, Shawn Broaddus, April Guidry, Jessica Veazey, Kelly Dougherty, Levi Dougherty, Crystal Schwerin, Stacie Broussard, Isabelle Dougherty, and Sarah Broussard; two step-grandchildren, Ryan Breaux and Kelly Lara; three great-great grandchildren, Noah Spivey, Tate Boose and Jiah Lara. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George G. Veazey; two sisters, Rosa Lee Kovar and Leona Veazey and one brother, Roy Lester. Visiting hours will be observed Tuesday from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm and continue Wednesday from 9:00 am to time of service. A rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Pallbearers are Ryan Guidry, Brady Wolfe, Liz Schwerin, Shawn Broaddus, Robert Broussard and Joe Dougherty. Honorary pallbearer is Willie Lester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in Mrs. Veazey's name to the Alzheimer's Research Fund, 1236 Ginger Crescent, Virginia Beach, VA 23453
