Linda Eileen Harris

Memorial Services will be held Sunday, September 9th at 11:30 AM at Delhomme Funeral Homes of Lafayette for Linda Robison Harris, 67, who passed away on September 6, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Linda was born October 19, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA and was a resident of Lafayette. Known by her family and friends as an adventurous soul, she loved to travel the world and experience life to its fullest. For a number of years, Linda lived in Dubai and Abu Dhabi of the United Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Melbourne, Australia and in recent years enjoyed the challenge of a walking safari in Africa and visiting the Great Wall of China. Her experiences were reflected in her painting, writing and the stories she shared. With her signature wit and warmth, Linda had the extraordinary ability to make friends wherever she went and had a genuine interest in wanting to know the people she met no matter what walks of life. Linda, a retired school teacher and librarian, is survived by her devoted friend and companion Percy Bernard; her two sons, William S. Slaughter IV and his wife Betsy of Pittsburgh, PA and Michael R. Slaughter and his wife Holly of Prairieville, LA; her two grandsons, Christopher R. Slaughter and Matthew J. Slaughter of Prairieville, LA; her step daughter Christen L. Harris and her husband Michael Eck of New York City; and her sister Joan R. Palmintier and her husband Jon 'Skip' of Broussard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen F. Harris and her parents, Dr. R. Warren and Mildred J. Robison of Lafayette. Linda's family wishes to express deep gratitude to Dr. E. Brierre; the medical professionals and staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston; the oncology floor of Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette; and her dear friends for their loving care and support. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Homes of Lafayette on Sunday, September 9th from 10:00 until 11:30 with a memorial and celebration of her life immediately following. As part of her medical care over the past two and a half years, Linda was not able to enjoy fresh flowers. In celebration of her life and her love of gardening, the family welcomes flowers for the service.
