Linwood A. Pace

Linwood A. Pace, III, age 50, passed away peacefully at his home in Lafayette, LA. on March 4, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer in the last year and a half. His 50 years of life blessed all who knew him with his gentleness, kindness, interest and most of all his ability and willingness to help others. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life and wish him a fond farewell will be held at the Scientology Mission on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 6:00 pm. He is survived by his wife and son who love him dearly and forever, Marie L. Pace and Linwood A. Pace, IV; his caring parents, Gayle and Linwood Pace, Jr. of Lafayette; two sisters, Layne Pace of Lafayette and Lisa Birnbaum and her family of Bellaire, Texas. He cared more about them than they will ever know. He graduated from LSU in 1979 and immediately opened his first enterprise in Baton Rouge, LA. After running a successful business, getting married, starting a family and opening his second business, he eventually moved back to Lafayette where he continued building businesses and remodeling homes. During this time, he realized there was more to life than just the day to day grind and he embarked on a spiritual journey to find the answers to life. And that he did. For the last 12 years as a counselor to others, he devoted most of his time as a staff member at the Scientology Mission of Lafayette. He wanted others to know that help truly was available and that their lives could change for the better. Whether it was counseling one-on-one with an individual, or working as a Volunteer Minister during the hurricanes to give help and guidance and assists to those misplaced through the storms and finding them new homes or devoting his life to helping others lead a drug-free existence through his delivery of a detox program at the Mission or being a loving and funny and creative husband and father and friend, he always went out of his way to ensure that others were taken care of. Not too many people, as they prepare to leave this life, have friends come by and tell them how their lives were literally saved by knowing and working with them. But Linwood had just that, one after another. That is a true testament to the good that he did and will continue to do. Linwood should mostly be remembered as an artist. Whether it was building, remodeling and designing homes in his earlier contracting businesses or creating and designing furniture or special projects, or in creating just the right communication to help another, he did it in own special gentle, caring and humorous way. Even as he lay in bed toward the end, he had not lost his sense of humor and told his wife, 'If I'm not HERE when you come back in the room, I'll be RIGHT THERE (and pointed to few inches over in the bed) He is greatly missed. He is thanked for all his incredible service to others. He is admired for his courage and persistence and strength. He is loved. Linwood and his family want to thank all their friends that helped throughout the last year. The prayers and postulates of others as well as their support and assistance are greatly appreciated. Linwood and his family are also very appreciative and fond of Dr. Bradley Chastant and thank him for his gentle understanding and care at the onset of Lin's cancer. The family wishes to also thank the staff of Hospice of Acadiana for their help and support in the last few hours of Lin's life, as well as Dr. Rohit Adi and Dr. Norman Dykes for their support.
