Louis Deshotels

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 19, 2022 in St. Mary Mother of the Church for Louis Archibald Deshotels, 79, who passed away on August 12, 2022 at his residence. Reverend Harold Trahan will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in St. Anne Cemetery Mausoleum - Youngsville. Louis was born in Kaplan, LA on November 30, 1942. He was called early in his life to serve the Lord. Louis entered the Immaculata Seminary in the 9th grade, where he spent 4 years of high school, and 2 years of college. He then transferred to the Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, where he continued his education for 6 more years. On June 1, 1968, Louis was ordained as a priest for the Diocese of Lafayette. He served as an associate pastor at St. Peter’s in New Iberia and St. Margaret’s in Lake Charles. He was the pastor of St. Landry parish in Opelousas. During these years, Louis also served on the Continuing Education of Clergy Committee for the Diocese of Lafayette. He left active ministry in 1981. Louis then entered the LSU School of Social Work, where he earned his master’s degree in 1983, and began his private practice. In this transitory period, he met and fell in love with his wife, Connie. Married in March of 1984, they shared a mutual love of many things, including the love of Jungian psychology, and most of all, dancing. In November of 1985, their son, Jacob, was born. Professionally, Louis’ major focus was the works and ideas of C.G. Jung. His dedication to Jungian psychology, along with his spiritual background and training, gave Louis tremendous insight into the suffering of the human soul, which he brought into his practice, and began touching lives in a way only he could. Louis was able to connect his own experiences with the collective unconscious, and share these helpful insights with others, especially those he counseled. Louis’ depth, knowledge and love of the psyche was enormous, and his love of learning only made it larger over time. Louis was one of the founding members of the C.G. Jung Society of Lafayette. He served as Treasurer from 2004 to 2020. Before that, he started a Jungian group called Prima Materia, and before that he was a member of the Acadiana Friends of Jung. Louis dedicated the next 38 years of his life to helping others. His quiet, understanding, and perceptive ways touched countless individuals, many of whom remained close and personal friends. The family wants to give special thanks to Louis’ niece and godchild, Debbie Ricks, Louis’ sister-in-law, Barbara Bergeron, Denise Denias, and Becca Begnaud, who all so lovingly cared for Louis in his time of need, to Father Harold Trahan, and to Louis’ lifelong friend, Danny Regan, who shared the joys and sorrows of Louis’ life, and who was with him to the end. The family also wants to thank all our relatives and friends, for all the love and support given. We will always be grateful. The Mass of Christian Burial for Louis will be live streamed beginning at 2:00 PM Friday, August 19, 2022 at St. Mary Mother of the Church. He is survived by his wife, Connie Deshotels; son, Jacob Deshotels and wife, Haley; step-son, Malcolm Vidrine and wife, Maureen; two grandchildren, Odile and Hank Vidrine as well as his three nieces, Debbie Ricks, Sherrie Sibley and Rachel Godwin. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard "Dez" Deshotels. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Friday, August 19, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM. A Rosary will be recited at 1:00 PM in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jacob Deshotels, Malcom Vidrine, Ted Fontenot, Carol Fontenot, Brice Grey and Chance Grey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Danny Regan.
