Louise Elaine Bourne

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Thursday, October 10, 2024 in St. Genevieve Catholic Church - Lafayette, LA for Louise Elaine Bourne, 94, who passed away on October 8, 2024. Fr. Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in St. John Catholic Cemetery - Lacassine, LA. Ms. Louise, a recent resident of Lake Charles and formerly of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Daniel Elijah Bourne, Sr. and the former Leah Provost. Born in Iowa and raised in Bell City, Louise graduated valedictorian of Iowa High School in 1948. She went on to earn her Bachelor's at SLI and then to LSU for her Certificate of Social Welfare & Master's in Social Work. Louise dedicated her life and career to the children of south Louisiana in foster care as a board-certified social worker. She was the Regional Administrator of Region 4, Dept. of Health and Human Resources, where she oversaw foster care, family services, protective services, adoptions, home-finding for adoption & foster care, and program development for daycares. Louise made such an enormous impact; she was awarded at the national level as an Angel of Adoption! She also served as a volunteer on the Louisiana Adoption Advisory Board. Upon retirement, Louise was a faithful member of the Secular Carmelites of Mary, Mother of Grace. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Charlene Buller Bourne; nieces, Donna Rhoden (John), Linda Fontenot (Charles), Carol Vercher (Kevin), Lori Fritzenschaft (Peter), Shari Rhoden (Patrick), and Karen Bourne; nephews, Jimmy Bourne (Heather), Kenneth Bourne (Jane), Wilfred R. Bourne, Jr. (Pauline), Charles Bourne (Tiffie), Randy Bourne (Cindy), David Bourne, and Joshua Bourne; and a host of family, friends, and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Leah Bourne; brothers, Daniel E. Bourne Jr., William R. Bourne (Katherine), and Wilfred R. Bourne Sr. (Betty); and niece, Pamela Bourne. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 12:00 PM on Thursday afternoon in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be her family & friends.
