Mable Trahan Brasseaux

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Mable’s life on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM by Deacon Russell Hayes. Visitation will continue on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 8:00 AM until 11:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Scott on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 12:00 PM. Fr. Gilbert Dutel will be celebrant of the Mass and officiate the funeral services. Readers will be Jennifer Savoie and Gloria Richard. Gift bearers will be Lauren Arnaud and Emma Arnaud, Rachel Arnaud and Olivia Arnaud, and Anna Darbonne. Interment will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Scott. Mable Trahan Brasseaux, age 96 from Scott, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, September 8, 2024. Mable was born in Rayne, LA on February 8, 1928 to Armance and Alexie Trahan. She was a 1945 graduate of Carencro High School. A devoted homemaker, Mable took great pride in creating an inviting home for her friends and family, pouring her heart into caring for her loved ones. Mable was a devout Catholic whose faith guided her throughout life. Whether she was attending mass as a parishioner of Sts. Peter & Paul, or watching mass from home in her later years, she exemplified a life of prayer, grace, and humility. Her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary was evident in her daily prayers, particularly through her commitment to praying the Rosary. Each bead she held in her hands was a reflection of her love for God and her unwavering trust in His divine plan. Mable had a passion for cooking and baking, and her kitchen was always filled with the delicious aromas of homemade Cajun meals and freshly baked goods. From the sweet smells of pain perdu, donuts, and Christmas cherry wink cookies to her lunch and dinner staples like gumbo, fried chicken, and meatball fricassee, there was something for everyone in Mable’s kitchen. Her Cajun French roots ran deep, often speaking the dialect to her daughters and friends (sometimes to keep the grandchildren from eavesdropping). She enjoyed conversations with her family and friends over coffee, even including her grandchildren by serving them “coffee milk”. The sounds of Cajun music from the TV or radio welcomed you into her home the second you opened her screen door. Mable enjoyed sewing and hemming clothing for her girls and grandchildren. She also loved praying the Rosary and taking shopping trips to the mall with her daughters following Saturday mass. Mable adored caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching baseball and football games, and spending time perfecting her pink brick flowerbeds. She married the love of her life Ray Brasseaux on October 11, 1948. They were happily married for over 52 years until Ray’s passing on June 26, 2001. They welcomed their twin girls in 1954, both of whom were the light of their lives. Her greatest gift was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mable spent her final weeks at home, continuing to do many of the activities she loved to do in her earlier years. She was cared for by her family around the clock, continuing to speak her mind, and humor her loved ones during this time. She is survived by her daughter, Arlene Darbonne. “Memaw” is also survived by her five grandchildren, Rachel Arnaud, Christopher Arnaud, Jennifer Savoie (Chris), Daniel Arnaud (Lauren), and Garrett Darbonne (Anna). “Memaw” was also able to meet her six great-grandchildren: Emma Arnaud and Lucy Arnaud; Gabriel Savoie and Raphael Savoie; Olivia Arnaud; and Isla Darbonne. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Brasseaux, her daughter Marlene Brasseaux Arnaud, her son-in-law David Arnaud, her mother Armance Falcon Trahan, her father Alexie Trahan, and her siblings Rodney Trahan, Eula Guilbeau, Beulah Meche, Austin Trahan, and Alma Jane Gaspard. Pallbearers will be Daniel Arnaud, Garrett Darbonne, William Darbonne, Ronnie Duplantis, Dennis Saunier, and Chris Savoie. Honorary pallbearers will be Memaw’s “Tee Babes”: Emma Arnaud and Lucy Arnaud; Gabriel Savoie and Raphael Savoie; Olivia Arnaud, and Isla Darbonne. The family would like to give a special thanks to her godchild Glenda Huval and niece Brenda Saunier for their assistance to the family during her final weeks at home. Additionally, thank you to Dr. Mehandi Haran, Dr. Richard Feucht, and the staff of Hospice of Acadiana, especially her nurses Jamie and Judith. Mable Trahan Brasseaux and her family were cared for and entrusted final arrangements to Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA.
