Madelyn Stacey

Funeral services for the forever beautiful Madelyn Stacey, age 87, will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at a 3:00 pm Graveside service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Lafayette. The services will be conducted by her nephew, Pastor Michael Picard, of West St. Charles Baptist Church. The family will receive family and friends from 12:30 pm until 2:30 pm at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA Madelyn was the daughter of late Nelda Matthews and Elmer Wandling. She was the wife of her adoring husband, the late Thomas H. Stacey. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Madelyn and Tom met in college at Southern Illinois University. They married upon his graduation from college and moved to Texas where they raised their family. Their love and commitment was inspiring. We imagine that Tom has awaited her heavenly arrival every moment since they’ve been apart. Although Madelyn worked as an Executive Secretary for Humble Oil Company, her career was definitely her family. She devoted herself to her husband and raising her two daughters. She loved her family with all of her heart. She enjoyed serving in her home church, Grace Lutheran in Victoria, Texas. In Victoria, she loved quilting and Bible Studies with her church family. Until the very end, she was an avid reader. She enjoyed shopping with her daughters and granddaughters. She loved outings that included stops for coffee at CC’s Coffee House. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Carriere and her husband David of Carencro and Nancy Stacey of Duson; sister-in-law Jean Marie Wandling; two grandchildren, Allison Frieden and her husband Mark of Carencro and Lauren Morgan and her husband James of Alexandria; and three great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Zachary and Isabelle Frieden. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, and brother, Gene M. Wandling. Her family would like to sincerely thank Brookdale Assisted Living where Madelyn has resided for the past five months. She loved and was loved by their staff. Additionally, we would also like to express our appreciation to Heart of Hospice for their compassion and support during such a difficult time. We also greatly appreciate the loving care that the exceptional staff at Medsource provided for Madelyn for over a year. We would like to lovingly thank Sarah Schultz, our amazing R.N., at Our Lady of Lourdes. Sarah provided professional care with such compassion and sensitivity to Madelyn and us.
