Madelyn P. Trible

On March 12, 2023, Madelyn P. Trible passed away, four days after her 93rd birthday. Madelyn was born in Toledo, Ohio on March 8, 1930. She held degrees in Music from Mary Manse College, Toledo, Ohio, and Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, and was certified as a Master Teacher by Music Teachers National Association. She taught generations of piano students throughout her long career and held a position as Professor of Music at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, retiring after almost 28 years. She was instrumental in establishing their Piano Pedagogy degree and related programs. In 1989, Madelyn, together with her former student Raymond Gitz, founded the New Orleans International Piano Competition as an augmentation to the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans Summer Keyboard Festival. Without delay, the competition began expanding, attracting competitors and audiences from around the globe and quickly becoming regarded as one of the finest showcases of pianistic talent. Madelyn and her husband Bruce were devoted to the perpetuation of classical music. Together they performed with the bell choir at St. Mary Church, and they enjoyed staging musical concerts in their home, featuring both Madelyn’s students and widely known guest artists. Following their retirement, they also enjoyed traveling the world, taking more than 40 cruises. Madelyn is survived by her son Michael Trible and Michael’s wife Lee Gideon. She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce, and her parents, Cecilia (Rowalt) and Dewey Peters. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM on Thursday evening in the funeral home. A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 PM in St. Mary Catholic Church, 419 Doucet Road, Lafayette, on Friday, March 17, 2023 with visitation from 1:00 PM until the time of service, at the church.
