Mamie V. Thomas

A Liturgy of the Word will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Mamie Ella Verdin Wofford Thomas, 94, who passed away on September 26, 2025. Fr. James Brady, JCL, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mrs. Thomas, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Adolph Thomas Verdin, Sr. and the former Ella Camardelle. Mamie Wooford Thomas was a beautiful soul, both on the outside and inside. She welcomed visitors, both family and friends, into her home with a friendly smile and open arms. She had a joie de vivre attitude about life. We all knew she would never question us about personal matters, but if we ever had a problem, we would always go straight to her for her very sage advice. Mamie was an expert cook and amazing seamstress. When receiving compliments, she humbly thanked one and all for the compliments. She never ever bragged. Mamie Wofford Thomas was a caring, kind, humble, talented, beautiful, and a loving wife, mother, and Grammy. She taught us, by her actions, to live better. We will always miss her! The family would like to extend our love and thanks to Sara Ceaser, who served as Mamie’s caretaker, and was so much more! She is survived by her children, Sam (Terry) Wofford Jr., Glen (Helen) Wofford Sr., and Gina W. Foster; grandchildren, Alexis W. (Mike) Joubert, Beau (Cassie) Wofford, Nicole W. (Lucius) McCelvey, Glen (Katie) Wofford Jr., Timothy (Cloey) Wofford, Jessica W. (Barrett) Ortego, Steven (Andrea) Wofford Jr., W. S. "Stan" Foster Jr., and Kellie F. (Rob) Searcy; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley V. Trosclair and Betty V. Helmer; half-siblings, Ronnie Verdin, Rip Verdin, Adolph T. Verdin Jr, Gayle Verdin, and Brenda V. Besse; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Sam Wofford Sr.; son, Steven Wofford Sr.; son-in-law, Dr. Walter Stanley Foster, Sr.; parents, Adolph and Ella Verdin; brother, Clarence Verdin; sister, Edna V. Porsche; half-brother, Noel Verdin; and her second husband, Richard Gordon Thomas. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 beginning at 10:00AM. A Rosary will be prayed at 12:30 PM in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue, following the Rosary, until 1:15 PM. Pallbearers will be Stan Foster Jr, Glen Wofford Jr, Rob Searcy, Beau Wofford, Ethan Wofford, and Tim Wofford.
