Margaret Bollich

Funeral Services will be held for Margaret Catherine Mays Bollich, age 93, on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at a 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers. Margaret died peacefully on Thursday, November 8, 2013 at her home in Lafayette with family at her side. The Reverend Brian Taylor, assisted by Deacon Reggie Bollich, will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass. Interment Services will be conducted by Deacon Reggie Bollich in the St. Lawrence Catholic Church Cemetery in Mowata, Louisiana. Lectors will be her granddaughter, Candice Guilbeau, and her great granddaughter, Sarah Nele. Gift Bearers will be grandchildren, Christine Menard and Eddie Bollich, and great grandchildren, Brooke Nele, and Josie Bollich. The Eulogist will be Catherine Guilbeau. Caroline Guilbeau, her granddaughter and Mrs. Edith Dubois, her close friend will be designing the family flower arrangements. Music will be provided by Jodi Bollich and David Domingue. Selections are; “Hail Mary”, “On Eagles’ Wings”, “Amazing Grace”, “Be Not Afraid”,“In the Garden”, “Take My Hand Precious Lord”, and “Gentle Woman”. Margaret was born on July 28, 1920 to Everette E. Mays and Carrie Miller Mays in Eunice, Louisiana. She graduated from St. Edmund Catholic High School and married Edward P. Bollich, Sr. on October 27, 1940. In 1958, Margaret entered the University of Southwest Louisiana as a freshman. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1963, a Master of Education in 1972, Plus 30 Graduate Hours and Reading Specialist Degree in 1980. Margaret taught first and third grades at L. Leo Judice Elementary in Scott and was a Title I Reading teacher at Judice and Scott Middle Schools. In 1973, she was named Title I Reading Supervisor for the Lafayette Parish School System and retired from that position in 1987. She was honored as the “1977-1978 Boss of the Year” for the Marquis de Lafayette Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association. She was a member of: Phi Kappa Phi; International and Louisiana Reading Associations and the Acadiana Reading Council; Louisiana Retired Teachers Association; and Holy Cross and St. Peter and Paul Ladies Altar Sodalities. Margaret’s dedication to education has been an inspiration to her family, colleagues, and students. Leaving to cherish her memory are: daughter, Catherine B. Guilbeau and husband Jim; sons, Edward and wife Mary Ann and Michael and wife Mary; grandchildren, Dr. Caroline Guilbeau, Christine Menard and husband Jimmy, Candice Guilbeau and former husband Benny Nele, Jr., Eddie Bollich, III and wife Erica, John Bollich, Jason Bollich and wife Beth; step-grandson, Patrick Roane; great-grandchildren; Brooke and Sarah Nele, Matthew, Michael, and Max-Edward Menard, Parker and Josie Bollich; sister, Mildred M. Derveloy and husband Robert, Sr.; sister-in-laws, Goldie Mays and Antoinette Bollich; and a host of nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Edward P. Bollich Sr., her mother, Carrie M. Mays, her father, Everette E. Mays, her brother, Kenneth E. Mays and her three half brothers; Edwin Mays and wife Belle, Buford Mays and wife Elizabeth, and Alvin Mays and wife Doris. The family requests that visitation be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services at the Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand Drive in Lafayette. A Rosary will be recited at 12:30 pm in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, John and Jason Bollich, and her great grandsons, Matthew, Michael, and Max-Edward Menard and Parker Bollich. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Guilbeau, Jimmy Menard, Benny Nele, Jr., and Robert Derveloy, Sr. Margaret’s family would like to express their deep appreciation to Amanda Dennis Lewis whose care and compassion kept Margaret feisty and alert, also to Rachel Young. Our heartfelt thanks to the Holy Cross Eucharist Ministers, Betty Herring and Pat Reid, for bringing Jesus to Margaret weekly. We are thankful to Nurse Lori Credeur, the other nurses and First Options Home Health Coordinator, Betty Louviere for their diligence in her care. We are deeply grateful for the care and compassion granted Margaret by St. Joseph Hospice’s staff, especially Nurse Rebecca Dixon. Our gratitude to Dr. Karen Smith, Dr. Joseph Gillespie, Dr. Gary Guidry, and Dr. Frank Bacque whose efforts made it possible for Margaret to live a long and fulfilling life.
