Marguerite B. Davis

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, December 3, 2007 at Asbury United Methodist Church for Marguerite B. Davis, 90, who passed away Thursday, November 29, 2007 in the care of her family. Reverend Ira Robinson, Associate Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church, will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Fountain Memorial Gardens. Marguerite B. Davis, born in 1917 in Brownfield, Texas and found home in Lafayette in 1948, was the daughter of John and Pauline Burnett. Marguerite was an accomplished golfer and was past Club Champion at Lafayette Municipal Golf Course. She was also a member and past president of the Lafayette Women's Golf Association; a member and past president of the Lafayette Home Builders Auxiliary Association; and a member of the Eastern Star. She, along with her husband, J.P. Davis, was one of the founding members of Asbury United Methodist Church and was a member of numerous Associations at the church. Survivors include her husband, James 'J.P.' Davis of Lafayette with whom she had been married to for 71 years; one daughter, Elaine Davis Scott and husband, Albert R. Scott of Hyattsville, Maryland; one son, James L. Davis, II of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Dr. James R. Landry and wife, Jennifer Jean Landry, Michele S. Landry and fianc', Shawn DeArment, and Matthew Parker Davis; two step-grandchildren, Sarah Ruth Broussard, and Linda Stout and husband, Glenn Stout; two great grandchildren, Sean Kohlhepp, and Julianne M. Simmons; five step-great grandchildren, Michelle S. Sacks, Douglas Stout, Lisa Stout, Jessica Jean Giordano, and Jason A. Giorgano; four step-great great grandchildren, Max and Nicholas Sacks, and Emma Jade and Ella Joe Stout; and one brother, Dr. Earl Burnett and wife, Lavonne of College Park, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pauline Burnett; one granddaughter, Kimberly Kay Landry Kohlhepp; three sisters, Ruby Glenn, Lucile Willis, and Shirley Parker; and three brothers, A.J. Burnett, Cecile Burnett, and Virgil Burnett. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Sunday from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm and continue Monday from 9:00 am until time of service. Pallbearers are James L. Davis, II, Dr. James Landry, Matthew Parker Davis, Judge Jay Burnett, Albert Scott, and Glenn Stout.
