Marguerite Theriot Lemoine

Marguerite Theriot Lemoine, a lifelong resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, at the age of 103. Born on August 28, 1921, in Lafayette, Marguerite’s life spanned more than a century of profound change and enduring faith. Marguerite was the daughter of Franz Theriot and Adrienne Francez. She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Lemoine; her son, Bradley Lemoine; her brothers, Ernest and Robert Theriot; her sister, Delores Coleman; and her son-in-law, Terry Rapp. In her early years, Marguerite worked as a file clerk at Dwight Andrus Insurance. During World War II, she contributed to the war effort by working in the office of Southern Pacific Railroad. After marrying and starting a family, she devoted herself full-time to raising her children. Once they were grown, she returned to the workforce and held various office positions with Kelly Services, Parkerson and Dupuis Insurance, The National Guard, and Estorge Drugs. Marguerite is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Darlene Lovas and husband Larry Lovas; Melanie Rapp; Janell Thomas and husband Russell Thomas - all of Lafayette and Lake Arthur, Louisiana - as well as her sister Emma Ruth Williams of Lafayette. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Bryan Lovas and Shelly; Adrienne Lovas; David Thomas and Kathryn; Lauren Matte and Kirk; Brittney Munro and Myndal - all of Lafayette; Nicole Livingston of Baton Rouge; Eric Thomas and Karli of Missouri, Texas; Lt Colonel (retired) Christopher Rapp and Katie of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Greg Rapp and Becky of Katy, Texas; and Josh Rapp of Lubbock, Texas. She was also blessed with numerous great-grandchildren: Austin Lovas, Adam Lovas, Olivia Lovas, Reagan Rouley, Amy Thomas, Braxton Munro, Brylie Munro, Amelia Livingston, Parker Thomas, Brylee Thomas, Dylan Thomas, William Lennox Rapp III, Oliver Rapp, Lincoln Rapp, Zachary Rapp, and Alonna Rapp. A woman of deep faith and service, Marguerite was a devout Catholic who lived out her beliefs through decades of volunteer work. In retirement, she served as a Eucharistic Minister of Communion at Fatima Church as well as at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, University Medical Center, Lafayette General Hospital, and several nursing homes. She was a dedicated member of Our Lady of the Rosary 1613 Catholic Daughters for 25 years and also belonged to the St. John Paul II National Shrine and the Lay Carmelite Order Secular (OCD). Marguerite had a vibrant creative spirit. She found joy in travel - visiting Europe, Asia, Canada, and destinations across the United States - and expressed herself through embroidery, painting, and especially poetry. Writing under the name Marguerite Theriot Lemoine “The Little Flower,” she composed over 300 poems. Her work appeared on platforms such as Poetry.com and Author’s Den and was featured in several anthologies including *The Best Poems and Poets 2024*, *The International Who’s Who in Poetry*, and publications by Noble House. In 2014, she self-published a collection titled *The Garden Path*, which included 128 original poems. Throughout her remarkable life - which encompassed the Great Depression through to modern global conflicts - Marguerite demonstrated resilience shaped by history’s most defining moments. Her strength carried her through life’s trials with grace. May Marguerite Theriot Lemoine’s memory be a source of comfort to all who knew her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, May 12, 2025 in St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church to honor Marguerite’s extraordinary life. Fr. David Hebert, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Lauren Matte and Brittney Munro with Olivia Lovas, Reagan Rouley, and Amy Thomas serving as gift-bearers. Entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Monday, May 12, 2025 beginning at 9:00 AM. A Rosary will be prayed at 10:30 AM on Monday morning in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue, following the Rosary, until 11:30 AM. Pallbearers will be Bryan Lovas, Austin Lovas, Adam Lovas, David Thomas, Marc Coleman, Kirk Matte, and Myndal Munro. The family would like to thank her wonderful care-givers including: the staff at Courtyard Manor Assisted Living, Community Hospice, Peggy Joseph, Martha Espree, Debra Thomas, Anna Babineaux, and Betty Guillory.
