Marguerite H. Montagnet

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 406 E. Pinhook Rd. in Lafayette, LA, for Marguerite Hitter Montagnet. Fr. Millard Boyer, Chaplain with Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mrs. Marguerite was the daughter of the late Alfred Edmond Hitter Sr. and the former Marguerite Brown. Marguerite , a native of New Iberia and resident of Lafayette for 65 years, passed away peacefully in her residence Thursday, February 1st, at the age of 96. She was married to the love of her life, Octave Pierre Montagnet, Sr., for 66 years before his passing. They met at Loyola University in New Orleans where she was the first woman to earn a degree in chemistry, which she would later utilize teaching chemistry lab at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL). As a devout Catholic, she attended daily Mass throughout the years, was involved in her church as a Eucharistic minister and lector, walked the halls of Lafayette General Hospital providing communion to those that could not attend Mass and even taught at her alma mater Mt. Carmel Academy of New Iberia, and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School in Lafayette. She cherished her faith and her family, along with a passion for her bridge games with dear friends. Marguerite is preceded in death by her husband, Octave Pierre Montagnet, Sr., and her son, Octave Pierre Montagnet, Jr., and one brother Alfred Hitter, Jr. and one sister Gene Hitter Jefferson. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, who she dearly loved: Renee Domingue (RJ), Eugenie Betzer (Ron), Michelle Foreman, Stephanie Montagnet, Andre Montagnet (Ellen), and daughter-in-law, Laurel Lequeux Montagnet. She is also survived by eight grandchildren Michael Domingue (Kendra), Adrienne Uffman (Michael), Brent Domingue (Ashley), John S. Foreman, Jr. (Gwen), Andrew Foreman (Emily), Leigh Montagnet McIntyre (Marc), Angie Montagnet Barrilleaux (Greg), and Emilie Montagnet (Drew). eighteen great-grandchildren, and one sister Simone Hitter Ricks. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 beginning at 10:00AM. A Rosary will be prayed at 12:30 PM on Tuesday morning in the church. Visiting hours will continue, following the Rosary, until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Michael Domingue, Brent Domingue, John Foreman III, Andrew Foreman, Conrad Domingue, and Sanders Foreman. Special thanks to Jamasea Boutte, Fr.
