Marilyn Irene Trahan Martin

The Family of Marilyn Irene Trahan Martin wishes to announce her death on July 23, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 26, 2025 in The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Chester Arceneaux, V.F., Pastor of The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Msgr. Richard Greene will con-celebrate. The burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Marilyn, the eldest daughter of Gus and Irene Carlin Trahan, was born August 2, 1930 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated from Mt. Carmel Lafayette, class of 1947, and from SLI (now ULL) in 1950. In August of 1950, she married Dr. Charles Chester Martin. They were the parents of seven children: Charles "Chuck" Martin (Janet), Gary Martin (Joy), Theresa Comeaux (Marc), Philip Martin (Janice), Elizabeth Martin, Emily Martin, and John Martin (Lisa). Their union was also blessed by seventeen grandchildren: Leigh Legg (Ben), Sarah Martin, Monet McCarthy, Melissa DeLaHoussaye (AJ), Gus Martin, Greg Martin, Matt Martin, Melanie Donahue (John), Marc Comeaux (Colleen), Katherine Doucet (Stephen), Katie Latiolais (Si), Andre Martin (Rebecca), Jacob Martin, Monique Becnel (Ricky), Jennifer Anderson (Martin), Candace Martin, and Kylie Martin. Marilyn is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren with two more on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles Chester Martin, on July 14, 1975; her parents, Irene Carlin Trahan on March 31, 1980 and Gustave Trahan, Jr. on April 17, 1990; sister, Lois Cole on November 10, 2022; and by two great-granddaughters, Carlin Kate Croft and Faith Becnel. Marilyn will be remembered for her deep Catholic faith, devotion to the Blessed Mother, and boundless love for her family. The family wishes that donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, The Carmelite Monastery, or any Catholic charity of choice. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Friday, July 25, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM on Friday evening in the funeral home and Saturday morning at 10:00 AM at the church. Visiting hours will continue Saturday, July 26, 2025 from 9:00 AM until the time of service at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
