Marilyn R. Parrish

MARILYN ROGERS PARRISH, 72, long time resident of Lafayette, passed away at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at her residence, following a long battle with cancer. Marilyn was born on June 8, in Bastrop, LA, the first child of Jorris D. Rogers and Vicky Freeland Rogers. She was educated at Bastrop High School and Northeastern Louisiana University. She enjoyed a career in Real Estate sales with Moss and Parrish Century 21 and later with Van Eaton and Romero. Her hobbies included reading and family activities. Marilyn was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lafayette for more than 40 years. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Gary E. Parrish, Sr. of Lafayette; one son, Gary E. Parrish, Jr. of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Amy P. Maronge (Michael) of Baton Rouge; one daughter-in-law, Denise W. Gatewood of Franklinton; six grandchildren, Katie Maronge of Baton Rouge; Byron, Emily, Mackennsey, Brennon, and Cameron Gatewood, of Franklinton; one great granddaughter, Aubrey Gatewood, of Deridder; two sisters, Carolyn R. Hughes (Troy) of Bastrop and Becky R. McCain (Jeff) of Monroe and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Millard K. Gatewood. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, 1100 Lee Avenue, Lafayette, at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 8, 2010. Visitation will be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand Drive from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday, August 7 and at First Baptist Church Sunday, August 8, from 1:00 PM to time of service. Services will be conducted by Dr. Steve Horn, Pastor of First Baptist Church. Interment will follow on Monday, August 9, 2010, at 12:00 Noon at Mulhearn Memorial Park in Monroe, LA. Pallbearers will be Jeff McCain, Michael Antley, Steven Hughes, Palmer Jarrell, III, Byron Gatewood, and Marshall O'Neal. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Cope, Larry Moss, Holmes Smart, Sam Porter, Frank Harrison, and Jack Anderson. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the medical personnel, Hospice of Acadiana, and the many friends who provided assistance and support, as well as the many members of First Baptist Church who continually prayed for Marilyn and her family during her illness. In lieu of flowers Marilyn's family suggests gifts to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, Hospice of Acadiana, First Baptist Church, or the charity of your choice.
