Maurice Louis "Butch" St. Julien Jr.

Maurice “Butch” Louis St. Julien, Jr., 70, passed away on Thursday, December 3rd, 2020. “Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds…” High Flight by John Gillespie Magee Butch was both a talented and mischievous child. His rocket drawing was published by Highlights magazine. Also, he loved to tease his little sister; encouraging her to eat eggshells like the “Three Stooges,” pulling her hair, and putting bugs on her! As an adult, Butch enjoyed Star Trek, H.P. Lovecraft and anything scientific. He enjoyed writing Science-fiction short stories. A talented storyteller, Butch, could retell a Sci-Fi or a Big Foot story in rich detail. He was also a loving uncle and brother. He once patiently listened on a long phone call as his then young niece cried about not getting a cat. Also, after visiting him, he always wanted you to let him know if you made it home safely. Born and raised in Broussard, he attended Saint Cecilia, Comeaux High, and USL, majoring in science education. He worked at a variety of jobs, lastly as a Courier for the Bayouland Library System. In fact, the Daily Comet featured him in an article called the “Library Book Carrier Rivals the Pony Express.” Butch will be greatly missed by his sister, Christine, brother-in-law, Andrew Menard, beloved niece, Andrea Menard and her boyfriend, Carlos Perez, as well as many friends in Broussard and at Camelot Place. We are glad he is at peace and in heaven with our parents Rosemary “Rose” [Stromer] and Maurice “Mose” St. Julien, Sr. We thank Camelot Place Nursing Home in Rayne for seven great years of caring for him. Thank you also to the Heart Hospital and St. Joseph Hospice, where he spent his last days battling stage four lung cancer. Due to the Covid pandemic we are delaying his memorial service until July, around his birthday.
