Mittie I. Hamburg

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Mittie 'Iris' Hamburg, 80, who passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loved ones after a valiant battle with cancer on February 3, 2011, at 11:45 PM. Reverend Luther Burney of First Baptist Church of Lafayette will conduct the funeral services. Musical selections will be sung by Ramona Carmichael, and the Eulogist will be Patti Mouton Judice. Pallbearers will be her sons, Tommy, Bruce, Carey, and Scott Hamburg; grandsons Zack, Kevin, and Joshua Hamburg; Honorary pallbearers; Peter and Jeffery Hamburg. Mrs. Hamburg, a resident of Lafayette, LA was the daughter of the late Felis Quimby and the former Mittie Nicholson of Laurel, Mississippi. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lafayette. Iris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a loyal and dear friend to many, always devoted to the needs of others. She enjoyed many interests, including her bowling league and her volunteer work as a Pink Lady at Lafayette General Medical Center. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church choir. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Jack Hamburg of Lafayette, four sons, Tommy Hamburg and his wife Renee' of Katy, Texas, Bruce Hamburg and his wife Patti of Delray Beach, Florida, Carey Hamburg of Lafayette, LA, and Scott Hamburg and his wife Erin of Jainesville, WI; 10 grandchildren and one on the way, Crystal, Beverly, Kevin, Amanda, Peter, Jeffery, Zack, Joshua, Jack, and Vivian Hamburg; and one great-granddaughter, Chloe Hamburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Mitzie and Julie Hamburg; one sister, Beryl Hyatt; and two brothers, Hollis and Clifton Quimby. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Tuesday 8, 2011 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
