Myrtle Mills Hamilton

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 14, 2006 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Myrtle Mills Hamilton, 96, who passed away Thursday, October 12, 2006 at 10:55 am at her residence. Rev. Perry Sanders, Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church will officiate at the services in Lafayette. Interment will take place in Harperville, Mississippi the following day at Harperville Community Cemetery. Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Marvin Elliott of Jackson, Mississippi, who is married to Mrs. Hamilton's niece, Sarah Mills Elliott. Musical selections will be sung by Dave Domingue, Mr. Tommy Guidry will accompany. Mrs. Hamilton, the daughter of the late Sam Smith Mills and the former Sally Moore was a native of Choctaw County and grew up in Harperville, Mississippi. Mrs. Hamilton was married to the late Rev. Carroll Alexander Hamilton. They lived in Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana during Rev. Hamilton's ministry. After Rev. Hamilton's death, Mrs. Hamilton moved again to Lafayette to be near her children. She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, while living in Lafayette. She was a loving mother, grandmother and 'Great' as she was called by her great-grandchildren. She sat for a family portrait with her great-great-granddaughter, who was recently born. After many years of making jelly, Mrs. Hamilton earned the honor of being inducted into the Sure Jell Company Hall of Fame. It delighted her to make hundreds of pecan tarts to share with her family and friends during the holidays. Mrs. Hamilton also compiled a cookbook titled 'A Dab of This and a Dab of That' for her family and friends to enjoy. Survivors include her son, Rodney and his wife, Barbara of Lafayette; two daughters, Norma Comeaux of Lafayette and Jeri Ann Flynn of Baton Rouge; one daughter- in-law, Faith Hamilton of Opelousas; fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great, great-grand daughter. Mrs. Hamilton is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Arno Mills of Jackson, Mississippi and nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Sam W. Hamilton; son-in-law, Philip Comeaux; two brothers, and two sisters. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday, October 14 from 9:00 am until the time of services. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Rod, Jeff, Carroll, and Mills Hamilton, David and Andre' Comeaux, Tom, Steven and Dr. Ethan Flynn. Readers will be her granddaughters, Rhonda Tortorich, Cathy Binder, Cynthia Comeaux and Melinda Flynn.
