Nell Ashley Kimbrough

Nell Ashley Kimbrough, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away Monday, December 14, 2009 at her Lafayette residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers. The Rev. John Wamsley, pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Lafayette Protestant Cemetery. Mrs. Kimbrough was born in Jeanerette, LA on February 6, 1922 to Nellie Dyer Ashley of Napoleonville and Estus Ashley of Pleasant Hill, LA. She was a longtime resident of Lafayette. She is survived by three daughters, Nell Schneider and her husband, Jack Schneider of Nashville; Karolyn Broussard and her husband, Stephen Broussard of Nashville; and Elizabeth Norwood and her husband, Noel Norwood of The Woodlands; two sons, Stephen Kimbrough and his wife Kathy Kimbrough of Houston; and Michael Kimbrough and his wife, Pamela Kimbrough of Shreveport; daughter-in-law, Pam Kimbrough of Baton Rouge; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, W. Bradley Kimbrough; one son, W. Bradley Kimbrough II of Baton Rouge, LA; three brothers, Thomas Ashley of Aurora, CO; Willard Ashley of Choudrant, LA; David Ashley of Lafayette; and one sister, Jane Winne of Three Rivers, MI. Pallbearers will be John Tolson, IV, Dr. Bradley Kimbrough, III, Noel Norwood, III, Matthew Kimbrough, Blakely Norwood, Stephen Broussard, II. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Broussard, Noel Norwood, II, Jack Schneider, Michael Selph, Jeff Routier, Michael Shane Hawkins, Brian Weeks, and Joe Callis. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her devoted caregivers ' Priscilla Guidry, Val Eakin, Geri Walley, Joyce Eldridge, Emily Duhon, Mona Champagne, and Kathy Prejean for their years of service and friendship. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Nell Kimbrough's name to Hospice of Acadiana (www.hospiceacadiana.com) or Grace Presbyterian Church Building fund where Mrs. Kimbrough was a charter member. Visiting hours will be observed on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will resume on Thursday from 9:00 am until the time of service at Delhomme Funeral Home.
