Nina Mae Ludington

It is with great joy and love that we announce "Miss Nina" has crossed over to be with her loved ones on the other side of eternity. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 14, 2009 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Nina Mae Ludington, 79, who passed away on November 6, 2009 at 7:30 am at her residence surrounded by her six children, her extended family and her beloved AA community. She passed in peace, knowing a life of love and sobriety was truly a gift...one she will take into the next life. Reverend Keith LaBove, Pastor of St. Patrick Church , will conduct the funeral services. Born in Chester, West Virginia on January 30, 1930, Nina Mae is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Nina Hood, her sisters Margie Wilson and Grace Delong, and her brother Howard Hood. She is survived by her brothers, Don Hood of Chester, West Virginia and Fred Hood of Leesberg, Florida. She was often referred to by Vic. her husband and high school sweetheart, as "Nin". Victor Ludington passed away on March 22, 1992. Their life together took them to reside in nine states, raise six children, move over twenty-five times, know the pains of the growing apart and the joy of finding each other again. She was known as Nana to her beloved grandchildren- David Sean Benoit of Westlake, LA, Raina Benoit of St. Petersburg, FL, and Roxi Raine of Memphis, TN, Zac Ludington of Shanghai, China, Melissa Ludington of Bend, OR, Logan and Trevor Ludington of Davis, CA, Willie and Katie Ludington of Pleasanton, CA, Sam, Dienna, Joanna Jadallah, and Ameira Mae Ludington of Irvine, CA and Bonnie Lakey of Dallas, TX. The latest additions to Nana's brood are her great grandchildren, Madalyn Rose of Bend, OR, and Baby Benoit-Piantanida of St. Perterburg, FL due in the spring. In her younger days, Nana would sing songs, play games, hide Easter eggs and read books. As age crept up on her, she became the matriarch of the family reunions and the keeper of the family stories. Endeared to her community as "Miss Nana", she was embraced by her neighbors, her support system, and most of all, her AA fellowship. Accepting her love and wisdom, many people- young and old- sat with her and wept over the agony of the disease of alcoholism and marveled at the divine intervention recovery created. Her most beloved moniker was "MOM". Known by her children- Vicky & Larry Benoit of Lafayette, LA, Alan & Peggy Ludington of Camarillo, CA, Paul & Linda Ludington of Bend, OR, Jamie & Ann Ludington of Pleasanton, CA, David and Sarah Ludington of Irvine, CA, and Nina Sue Ludington of Ventura, CA- she would always be the one to call in times of trouble. We moved with her, changed with her and celebrated her sobriety one day at a time. There is no way in one small space to tell the diverse and complicated love story we, her children, shared. Six kids, each with different life experiences, had unique journeys with the woman we got to call MOM. She shared her life with many and will be missed by all...We love you...Its a great day to be sober. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until service time at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette.
