Paul Roy Girouard

Funeral Services will be held at a 1:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, October 1, 2012 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church for Paul Roy Girouard, 86, who passed away on September 27, 2012 at 4:30 pm at his residence. Reverend Bill Ruskowski, Associate Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery. Mr. Girouard, the son of Lola and Terrance Girouard, was a lifelong resident of Broussard. He owned and operated Girouard's grocery store in Broussard for over 50 years. You could always find Mr. Girouard joking with the children who were waiting for the school bus in front of his grocery store. Throughout his life, his love for animals was evident. He raised and fought fighting roosters for several years. Upon his retirement, Mr. Girouard raised and showed Rottweiler's. Of his Rottweiler's, four where champions and one ranked third in the country. Mr. Girouard enjoyed life, and could be found taking care of his lawn and flower beds. He will be remembered for his fairness and generosity. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and loving friend to all who knew him. He will be missed dearly. He is survived by three daughters, Charlette L. Girouard and companion Pat Broussard of Broussard, LA, Wanda G. Dore and husband Felton of Broussard, LA and Sheila G. Decou and companion Johnny Caffey of Broussard, LA; one son, Paul R. Girouard and wife Linda of Cypress, TX; seven grandchildren, Andrea G. O'Dowd and husband Mark, Royce Girouard and wife Kellie, Rhonda R. Dupre and husband Cory, Angelique R. Schultz and husband Louis, Nicole Dore', Edie D. Firmin and husband Billy, and Byron Decou and wife Jada; and seventeen great grandchildren, Kate O'Dowd, Lauren O'Dowd, Jackson Girouard, Julian Girouard, Devin Dupre, Haiden Dupre, Lakeyn Schultz, Camryn Schultz, Britani Webre, Demi Dor', Lane Firmin, Sophie Firmin, Cherie Firmin, Jena Decou, Billy Decou, Broc Decou, Gaven Lecompte. He was preceded in death by his by his loving wife of 61 years, Edith Girouard, his parents, and one grandson, Lance H. Decou. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Monday, October 1, 2012 from 11:00 am until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Royce Girouard, Mark O'Dowd, Cory Dupre, Louis Schultz, Billy Firmin, Byron Decou, Devin Dupre, Billy Decou, Brock Decou, and Gaven Lecompte.
