Pearl Eva Landry

Pearl Eva Landry, 102, quietly passed away on June 20, 2013 at Amelia Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 12:00 pm in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers. Reverend Alphonse Thainese, Associate Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Survivors include many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and hundreds of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Pauline Pennison Landry and seven siblings: Flavia Dupuy, Earnest Landry, Libby Ayo, Mildred Perez, Horace Landry, Enez Spinella and Ruth Olin. Pearl was a native of Patterson, LA. She migrated to Lafayette as her job with Bell South grew and she had to move. She moved steadily up to Supervisor, WWII began and Pearl joined the women's Army. Because of her background in communications, she trained pilots in Morse Code. At the end of the war, Pearl was sent to Paris to help return communications to the city, She was there for a little over six months. Pearl was a member of the first women's Army Corp "WAC" which was instituted by Truman after the war. Pearl returned to the states and continued her work with the telephone company for 43 years. She was instrumental in bringing the "Hug-a-bear" program to the Pioneers. Pearl was an active Pioneer. She was active in Carnival Programs, civic activities, and Pioneers Credit Union. The family thanks the family and staff of Amelia Manor Nursing Home for all their love and attention during her stay for the last three plus years. They were responsible for our Aunt Pearl being "Queen of the Manor" at age 100 years. She was so happy. She left us with a message: "Keep on smiling and the whole world smiles with you!" She will be missed by all who knew her. We also would like to thank everyone from Hospice of Acadiana for their love and support during these last months of her life.
