Philomena Mathilda Theaux

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 24, 2015 in the Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers for Philomena Mathilda Theaux, 95, who passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 6:20 am at Lafayette General Medical Center. Deacon Cody Miller, will be conduct the funeral services. Entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum. Philomena, a resident of Lafayette, LA was the daughter of the late Laurent Theaux and the former Flavie Landry. She was a beautiful lady. Philo was born to a family who endured special situations, she attended Mt. Carmel Catholic School in Lafayette with her sisters. She kept fond memories from those days. Then at 10, tragedy hit the family. Philo and her sister became ill, it was 1929. Was it the flu? Whatever it was it took her sister Odet's life and left Philo deaf. How did her parents ever make it through!! So at 10, Philo was sent to live in Baton Rouge to attend the school for the deaf. After completing her studies she returned to live in Lafayette with her family. Then in the fall of 1980 her life changed. She moved into her very own apartment when Village du Lac opened, being one of the first residents there. She soared like a butterfly, loving her independence. She walked most places and used public transportation getting around town. She learned her way around town quickly and could be found shopping everywhere. Philo was a delight. She had a special sense of humor, bringing the joke of the day (from the Readers Digest) to the deaf center each morning, lifting the spirits of the staff there. Her laugh was infectious. I believe most will remember her for her devotion to God and to being Catholic. She never let curse words or off color jokes be spoken around her. She always made a conscious decision to consider what God would or would not like in her actions. She was indeed an exceptional lady. Smiles and Hugs, Paulette She is survived by her brothers, Robert (R. L.) Theaux, Donald Theaux and her sister, Lillian Fowler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Laurent Theaux and Flavie Theaux and her siblings, Odet Theaux, Lena Delhomme, Audrey Witte and Dick Theaux. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand Drive on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm on Friday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 10:00 am until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Rocky Theaux, Jousha Berard, Peter Berard, Randall Olivier, Danny Theaux and John Fowler. Personal condolences may be sent to the Theaux family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com.
