"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race" Funeral Services will be held at an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, December 17, 2010 at St. Leo the Great Church for Randal Gregory Regan, 58, who passed away on December 13, 2010 at 6:38 am at U C Davis Medical Center. Reverend Austin Leger will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Cynthia Nobles and Carla Boudreaux. Gift Bearers will be Linda Patrick and Pat Stoute. Eucharistic Minister will be his godmother, Lois Dietz. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Regan, was a native of Lafayette and a resident of Sacramento, CA, for the past 22 years. He was the son of Huey Patrick Regan and the former Wilma Zaunbrecher. As a 7 year old mentally gifted but physically handicapped boy, Randy was the State Representative for Louisiana's Crippled Children in the 1959 Easter Seal Campaign. Though Randy spent a great deal of his life in surgery, casts and braces, he continued to advocate for the needs of individuals with disabilities throughout his life. Despite his physical and visual challenges, Randy continued to fight for those with greater disabilities and never gave up on his quest for equal accessibility for all citizens. In 1988 Randy quietly moved to California after realizing the independent lifestyle offered to all individuals and the opportunity for a "normal" life there. For the past 22 years, Randy enjoyed the simple freedoms that we all take for granted every day. While there, he advocated for ADA compliance and had a successful career in sales. His presence will be dearly missed in the Sacramento area. Randy was an inspiration to all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. He is survived by parents, Wilma Zaunbrecher and Huey Regan, Sr. of Lafayette; two sisters, Kathleen "Kathy" Comeaux and husband Glenn of Lafayette and Becky Managan of Lafayette; five nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his one brother, Huey Patrick "Pat" Regan, Jr., Maternal Grandparents, Nicholas and Josephine Cramer Zaunbrecher; and Paternal Grandparents, George and Margaret Thoman Regan. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will continue on Friday from 8:00 am until service time. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Thursday in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Steven Leger, Billy Zaunbrecher, Glenn Comeaux, Delaney Stoute, Terry Regan, and Dwayne Regan. Honorary Pallbearer will be Gerald Regan. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to family liaison, Geraldine Yates, and caregiver, Marie Johnson.
