Rita Renee Adania

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Rita Renee Kotchka Adania, 70, who passed away on July 27, 2022 at Lafayette General Medical Center with her family by her side. Fr. Steve LeBlanc will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Rita Renee Kotchka Adania was born on September 10th, 1951 in Rochester, PA to the late Norman Kotchka and Alyce Gryszko Kotchka. She graduated from Monaca High School in 1969 and then attended Wilma Boyd Airline School in Pittsburgh, graduating in 1970. Soon after, she met the love of her life, Peter Adania, while working at the Parkway Center Inn. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married at Heinz Chapel in Pittsburgh on November 3rd, 1973. Throughout the course of Peter’s successful career in the hospitality industry, she supported him while enjoying traveling, as well as entertaining and socializing with close friends & family. In 1978 she became a devoted mother to her son, Daniel, whom she adored beyond words. Despite several moves, she always felt at home as long as Peter was by her side. Rita found a great sense of pride and purpose volunteering in hospital gift shops, with her sense of style and organizational skills leading to a managerial role. Following Peter’s retirement in 2006, they moved to Lake Wylie, South Carolina and enjoyed making new friends and, of course, traveling. When Peter’s health began to decline, Rita took a more active role in one of his passions: cooking. She was his right hand and left hand, becoming his sous chef on numerous occasions. After losing her soulmate in early 2020, Rita moved to Lafayette, Louisiana to be near her son, daughter-in-law (Elizabeth), granddaughter (Reagan) and grandson (Cameron). The last two years in Lafayette were perhaps the most rewarding of all. Rita loved being able to attend Reagan’s cheerleading events and Cameron’s baseball games, as well as their plays. She had a blast attending her first Mardi Gras ball and parade, as well as the local music and arts festival, Festival Acadiens. She continued to travel, taking several trips to New Orleans, going to Fort Myers, Florida for her 70th birthday party in September 2021, as well as Phoenix, Arizona just a few months ago to reconnect with family for her sister-in-law’s 80th birthday party. Rita still kept up with her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, looking forward to watching every game during football season. She is survived by her son, Daniel Peter Adania and his wife, Elizabeth Van Way Adania; step-daughter, Stacy Adania Gonzales; grandchildren, Reagan Shelby Adania, Cameron David Adania and Sonny Rey Gonzales; brothers, Darrell Kotchka and Gary Kotchka; canine companion, “Jade”; and a host of nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Peter Murray Adania; parents, Norman and Alyce Kotchka; brother, David Kotchka; nephew, Brian Kotchka; sisters-in-law, Patricia Kotchka and Jean Cervi Kotchka. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 from 10:00AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Daniel Adania, Cameron Adania, Dillon Van Way, Braeden Van Way, James Van Way III and John Van Way. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Kotchka, Darrell Kotchka, Gary Duda, Jeff Brinda and Donald Romero.
