Rita Alga Duhon Landry

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 2 at 2:00 pm in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church for Rita Alga Duhon Landry, age 95, who passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 28, 2023. Fr. Paul Bienvenu, Pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church - Maurice, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Megan Peltier and Jessica Harris. Gift Bearers will be Kristi Evans and Nicole Poirrier. The family requests that visiting hours begin on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 9:00 AM until the time of services in Delhomme Funeral Home of Maurice. A Rosary will be recited Monday morning at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Rita Alga Duhon was born on May 22, 1928, and was a lifelong resident of Vermilion Parish. She graduated from Maurice High School in 1945, later married Paul Ray Landry and together they raised four daughters. She worked for Hadacol and before retiring, spent many years as secretary/bookkeeper for Maurice High and Maurice Elementary schools. In her recent years, she was usually found with a butterscotch candy in her mouth and a Jumbo word search puzzle in her hand. She was a great cook and her specialties were chocolate bread, Miss Bea's Pudding and the special Louisiana Chocolate Cake she made for her daughters' birthdays. Alga is survived by her three daughters, Paulette Harris (Wayne) of Maurice, Elizabeth Landry of Aspen, Colorado, and Mary Derouen (Kip) of Maurice; her grandchildren Kristi Evans (Billy), Nicole Poirrier (Robert Trahan), Clint Savoy (Mandy), Megan Peltier (Giles), Josh Goutierrez (Brooke), Jessica Harris, Paul Rushing (Kristen), and Taylor Harris (Katie); her great-grandchildren Mason, Ian and Carley Evans, Madison and Bella Poirrier, Ellie and Issac Goutierrez, Preston and Drew Harris, Camden and Thea Savoy, Tanner and Ryan Peltier, and R.E. and Charlie Rushing; her brother Paul Duhon and sister Jane Broussard as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents Ode and Anna Baudoin Duhon, husband Paul Ray Landry, daughter Rita Joan Goutierrez, sisters Lucille Duhon, Neuvee Vincent & Audrey Villien, brothers Clarence Duhon & Carrol Duhon, and in-laws Alboin and Enola Landry, Dewey & Roy Landry, and Shirley Broussard. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Kerry Schexnaider for helping to keep Granny healthy for so many years, Connie Suire and Tim and Nadine Rushing for bringing her Communion and visiting with her, the staff of Community Home Health and Hospice, especially Karen, Clarissa, Valerie and Matt for their kind compassionate care during her last months, and her sitters Missy and Madison. Pallbearers will be Clint Savoy, Josh Goutierrez, Taylor Harris, Paul Rushing, Kip Derouen and Giles Peltier.
