Robert Julio Boustany

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, June 21, 2007 at a Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Robert J. Boustany, Sr., 90, who died peacefully at his Lafayette residence. The interment will take place in St. John Cemetery. The Reverend Keith DeRouen, Pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church will be Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Several songs will be rendered by Melody Thibodeaux, soloist. The readings will be given by Susan Boustany and Edward Boustany. Gift Bearers are Kellie Chitty, Patrice Pellerin, and Deanne John. Mr. Boustany was born to Najib Boustany and Dimetria Leito on March 27, 1917 in Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. He came to the United States in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II from October 16, 1942 to January 4, 1946 as a Surgical Technician. He was employed at Boustany's Department Store and later at Huval Baking Company until his retirement in 1987. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Secular Third Order of Carmel as well as the Carmelite Guild. He served at the altar of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and also as an usher and Eucharistic Minister. He received the Bishop's Service Medal in 2003. He always looked forward to his annual retreat in Grand Coteau. He was a devoted husband to his wife Alice John Boustany, who preceded him in death in December of 1998. He was a loving father and grandfather. He set a wonderful example for his family through prayer and daily attendance at mass. Survivors include one son, Robert J. Boustany, Jr. of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Beverly B. Chitty and her husband, Kenny, and Mary Alice Boustany of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Brent Chitty, Brandon Chitty, Kevin Chitty, and Kellie Chitty all of Lafayette, Robert Boustany, III, David Boustany, Yvonne Boustany of Houston, and Heather Gillette and her husband, Victor, of Dallas, Texas; two great grandchildren, Brooke and Lana Gillette of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Joseph Boustany; one sister, Emily Boustany; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Alice; a baby daughter, Julia Marie; his twin sister, Julia; and his sisters, Angelica, Susan and Amelia. The family requests that visitation be observed from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Wednesday. The funeral home will be re-open Thursday from 8:00 am until service at 2:00 pm. A rosary will be prayed Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 6:00 pm in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Brent Chitty, Brandon Chitty, Kevin Chitty, Robert Boustany, III, Ronnie Boustany, James Boustany, Alfred Boustany, II, and Kenny Dugas. Honorary pallbearers are Kenny Chitty, A.J. Antoine, Antoine Boustany, Dr. Francis Boustany, Joseph Boustany, and Kenny Pellerin.
