Robert Neal Byrd

Memorial services will be held Sunday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at his residence 105 Courtney Drive, Lafayette, for Robert N. 'Bob' Byrd, 74, passed away at his home. Born to parents Ed and Lily Byrd. He had five siblings all deceased; Fannie Byrd Lewis, Rabbie Byrd Stewart, Lee Byrd, Ed Byrd, and Ernest Byrd. Robert went into A.F. in 1950 to 1955. He was stationed in Roswell, N.M. most of his tenure with several trips overseas. He was an aircraft mechanic. In 1953 he married Billie (June) Owens in OK. They have three children Steve and wife, Dawn of Springtown, TX. Kim Credeur of Maurice, and Dan and wife, Nancy Byrd of Lafayette. He had five grandsons, Damion, Jake, Matt Byrd, Josh Guilbeau and Mitch Credeur and two great granddaughters, Grace and Clara Byrd; noumerous relatives including nephews, Tommy, Edward, Lynn Byrd, Kelly Campbell, Ernie Byrd, nieces, Betty Campbell, Cathy Ventrese, Patricia (Trish) and husband, Leroy Jones, Sandy Byrd, Gloria Frie, Linda Billieter, Ernestine McDaniel and Jim Byrd; mother-in-law, Florence Owens Mattox; sister-in-law Judy Robertson and husband, Alton Larry and Jo Owens all of Alvin, Texas; brother-in-law, Garry Owens and wife, Roberta of Putman, OK; Thelma Byrd of Marieta, GA, and Unity Byrd of Devon, Eng. In 1955 Robert went to work in the oil industry after getting out of the A.F. in Houston at Eastern States Pet Co. After a career in oil safety, first in Houston then Bakersfield, CA and Hunting Beach, CA. In 1971 he transferred to Lafayette, where he lived for the next 35 years. When he retired from the oil industry after being bought and sold several times to Segual Oil, Burmia Oil of Eng. And R.J. Renolds,, he formed his own consultant company, B.J. and B Consultants which he and his wife June ran, he had two extended tours in Indonesia, when he finally retired for good in the 90's to his camp at Toledo Bend where he enjoyed the lake, the wildlife and gardening. In 2000 he moved back to Duson to live with Jane because of his declining health. His hobbies were his children, grandchildren, his camp and gardening.
