Robert Anthony Hesse

services will be held at a 1:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 1, 2007 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for Robert Anthony Hesse, 75, who passed away at his residence. Reverend Msgr. Charles Mallet will be Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the services. Interment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum in Lafayette. Dr. Hesse, the son of the late Adrian Michael Hesse and the former Rose Greco was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, October 24, 1931. He was a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana since April 1935. Dr. Hesse was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Lafayette, Louisiana, and Class of 1948 Valedictorian. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1952, a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1954 from Loyola University of New Orleans, a Rotating Internship from 1954-55 at the United States Public Health Service Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia, and Fellow, Academy of General Dentistry, July 1981. He was a member of the American Dental Association; Louisiana Dental Association; Acadiana District Dental Association (Past President, and Past Secretary); Academy of General Dentistry (Fellow); Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society; C. Victor Vignes Odontological Society; Pierre Fauchard Academy (Present State Chairman); Evangeline Dental Study Club (Charter President); Delta Sigma Delta (Life Member);Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, staff; Lafayette General Regional Medical Center, staff. In his profession, he held former positions on the Louisiana Dental Association Council on Dental Health; Louisiana Dental Association Education Committee; Louisiana Dental Association Council on Dental Care; Louisiana Dental Association Manpower Committee, Chairman; Chairman of Continuing Education, Louisiana Academy of General Dentistry; Public Relations Chairman for two Louisiana State Dental meetings; Chairman, Acadiana District Dental Association, National Dental Health Week; instructor, and certified Dental Assistants Training Course in Lafayette. He was presently serving as a member of distinguished Dentist committee of the Louisiana Dental Association; member of the Ad Hoc committee of the Louisiana Dental Association to study the operation of the Executive Office; Pierre Fauchard Academy State Chairman; Louisiana Academy of General Dentistry, Board of Directors; Program Chairman, Louisiana Academy of General Dentistry; Italian-American Club of Lafayette (Past President and Newsletter Editor); Contributing writer to Italian American Digest and Acadiana Arts Council Newspapers; member of the Acadiana Area Steering Committee, Loyola University of New Orleans; member of the Lafayette Community Concert Association; and member of the New Iberia Community Concert Association. Various Awards he received were October 4, 1991- American College of Dentists-Fellow; January 1993-'WHO'S WHO AMONG ITALIAN AMERICANS', The National Italian American Foundation; April 3, 1993-DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD-Louisiana Dental Association; October 1994-named Honorary Officer of American Dental Association at the National Meeting of the American Dental Association in New Orleans; September 1999-Pierre Fauchard Academy Louisiana Outstanding Dentist Award; July 30, 1990-Saint La Salle Auxiliary-named as an HONORED MEMBER; December 7, 2001-Louisiana Academy of General Dentistry-The MARK J. LOCANTRO award for Distinguished Service to the Profession of Dentistry; October 1994-International College of Dentists-Fellow; October 2003-(For the second time ) named Honorary Office of the American Dental Association at the National Meeting held in New Orleans. Survivors include one daughter, Claire Hesse Judice and husband, Reggie and their sons, Jonathan, Jake, and Nathan Judice; four sons, Michael Hesse, Stephen Hesse and wife, Cheryl and their daughters, Leah, Ellen, Stephanie, Kathryn, and Monica Hesse, James Hesse and wife, Lisa and their daughters, Mary and Virginia Hesse, and John Hesse and wife, Rita and their children, David, Kevin, and Elizabeth Hesse; and one half-sister, Mrs. Adrian Kreider of Tuscaloosa, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marjorie Hesse and brother, Donald A. Hesse, Sr. Dr. Hesse wishes to thank Mary Ann Arceneaux for 34 years of friendship and faithful service. Dr. Hesse wishes to thank the Christian Brothers, the Mount Carmel Sisters, and the Jesuits for the wonderful education given to him. Visiting hours will be observed on Thursday from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will continue on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of services. A rosary will be recited by Reverend Msgr.
