Robert C Pettit

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers for Robert “Bob” C. Pettit, 93, who passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. His grandson, Reverend Neil Pettit, Associate Pastor of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, will conduct the memorial service. Interment will follow at Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Bob was born in Lykens, Ohio on March 2, 1920. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps which later became the U.S. Air force in 1942. He served as a pilot assigned to the 514th Squadron in the Liberandos 376th Heavy Bombardment Group of WWII, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Returning home, he graduated from The Ohio State University in 1948 and moved to Houston to work in the oil industry. He worked as a landman for Houston Oil and Gas Company, which transferred him to Lafayette, where he would reside for the rest of his life. Bob married the former Barbara Perron of Ville Platte. While working in Lafayette as an independent oilman, he worked with various partners in the oil and gas industry to market and drill numerous exploration wells. He was also instrumental in the planning and development of the Oil Center of Lafayette. Bob was a founding member of the Petroleum Club of Lafayette and proudly remained a member until the day he died. He served as chairman of the Lafayette Airport Commission and a member of the Order of Troubadours. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and was a lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited. Bob is survived by his wife Barbara Perron Pettit; three sons, Robert Pettit and his wife Lilian of Cuautla, Mexico, Mike Pettit and his wife Scarlet of Lafayette, and Rick Pettit of Kaneohe, Hawaii; one daughter, Sharon Pettit Rundell of Boca Raton, Florida; six grandchildren, Jeff Rundell, Claire Pettit Arabie, Reverend Neil Pettit, Carl Pettit, Daniel Pettit and Kevin Pettit; one great-grandchild, Marie Arabie; and siblings, Mary Pettit Kocher, Jean Pettit Rowell and Marion Pettit. He was preceded in death by his parents C.H. and Ida Pettit, siblings Cliff Pettit and Paul Pettit, son in law John Rundell and grandchildren Brett Rundell and Dani Pettit. The family requests that visitation be observed from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, December 15. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Sunday. Visitation will resume at 9:00 am on Monday until time of service at Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand Drive.
