Roma Hill Hepburn

A private family memorial service will be held for Roma Hill Hepburn, 80, who passed away on Friday, December 12, 2008 at her residence. Roma graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Marietta College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Business Administration. She was a member of Alpha XI Sorority. While attending college she worked at Sugden's Book Store, today one of the few remaining family owned businesses in Marietta, Ohio. After graduation she worked for the Proctor & Gamble Company in Cincinnati, Ohio in the Market Research Department and later at General Electric in Cincinnati in the Air Craft Turbine Division. She moved to Olney, Illinois and taught Language Arts at Olney Jr. High for 2 years before relocating to Evansville, Indiana and then to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1961. Roma was very involved in the First Presbyterian Church in Lafayette where she served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and together with Reverend Bill Frierson, operated the first coffee house for USL students on Sunday nights at the church. She was involved in Adult Education, teaching reading and writing to people who otherwise might not have had the opportunity. Roma was instrumental in opening the China & Crystal Department at Goudchaux's (now Macy's) when the Acadiana Mall in Lafayette first opened. Survivors include her husband, George C. Hepburn, Jr. of Katy, Texas; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Abdalla and her husband, Harold of Lafayette, Louisiana and Jennifer Badalamenti and her husband, Anthony of Katy, Texas; one step-daughter, Margaret Hepburn of Austin, Texas; two step-sons, George C. Hepburn, III and his wife, Lesa of Houston, Texas and James D. Hepburn and his wife, Victoria of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Jasmine Marie Abdalla of Lafayette, Louisiana, Caroline Marie Badalamenti of Katy, Texas and Catherine Elizabeth Badalamenti of Katy, Texas; step-grandchildren, Edward and Abigail Hepburn of Houston, Texas; three nieces; one nephew; seventeen cousins; three great nieces; two great nephews; one great-great niece; two sisters, Kay Cline and her husband, Ralph of Marietta, Ohio and Velma Jean Eichmiller of Marietta, Ohio; and one brother, Thurman E. Hill and his wife, Julie of Marietta, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle T. Hill and the former Marjorie Pauline Schultheis. A special thanks to her caregivers, Dedra, May Bell, Carol, Sheila, Jackie, Keeta, Olivia, Bernice, Katie, and to her friend and stylist Sandy Duhon.
