Ronald "Ron" Edward Gauthier

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary Mother of the Church at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 12, 2023 for Ronald “Ron” Edward Gauthier, 78, who passed away from Parkinsonism at home on October 7, 2023. The Reverend Father Cedric Sonnier, Pastor of St. Mary Mother of the Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and officiate the funeral service. The family requests that visitation be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue at St. Mary Mother of the Church on Thursday, October 12, 2023 beginning at 8:00 AM. The eulogies will begin at 9:45 AM leading up to the Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at St John’s Cemetery in Lafayette. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Connie Oubre Gauthier, his son, Stephen Todd Gauthier and wife, Christy Tackaberry Gauthier, his daughter, Regan Elizabeth Gauthier, and Ron’s favorite (and only) grandson, Austin Edward Gauthier. He is also survived by his brother Charles Wilbert Gauthier (Will), his sister, Jeanie Gauthier, and his sister-in-law, Nita Gauthier (Billy) all from Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Gaspard and Gertrude Wilbert Gauthier, his brother, William Gaspard Gauthier, Jr., and his sister-in-law, Michelle Minton Gauthier (Will). Ron was born and raised in Plaquemine, Louisiana and graduated from St John’s High School where he was a celebrated scholar/athlete. Ron continued his education at Louisiana State University where he graduated with a B.S. and M.S. in Economics. While at LSU he was very active on campus, especially enjoying intramural sports and Greek life as a member & President of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Upon graduation, Ron began his business career with IBM in Huntsville, Alabama working in the space program and later moved to New York to work in the computer sales division of IBM. In 1974, he returned to Louisiana to join O.J. Oubre Lumber Company. During his time at O.J. Oubre Lumber, Ron ventured into speculative home building and after completing his first home, decided that construction was his calling. Ron Gauthier Homes, Inc. was started in 1978 and later he purchased Oil City Realty. For over 40 years, Ron played a critical role in the home building and real estate industry. Now in its 45th year, Ron Gauthier Homes, Inc. is owned and operated by his son, Stephen. Always active in his community, Ron was a member of many organizations. He was President of the Acadian Home Builders Association for 2 terms, Vice-President of the Louisiana Home Builders Association, President of the Lafayette Board of Realtors, and served on the Lafayette General City Board and Hibernia National Bank City Board. Ron was also a longtime member of Oakbourne Country Club, Lafayette Town House, The Krewe of Gabriel, The Musket Club, and the Beavers Club. Ron enjoyed sports and the outdoors. Whether hunting with Stephen, supporting Regan’s volleyball or watching Austin play lacrosse, he was always happiest spending time with his family. He labeled himself a “professional guest”, always being included in hunts with his friends. Ron was an avid golfer who spent countless hours studying and practicing the game. Although he never quite achieved his desired handicap, his golfing buddies provided him a lifetime of joy on the many courses they played. He also enjoyed his Tigers and never turned down an invitation to an LSU game. Pallbearers will include Stephen T. Gauthier, Austin Gauthier, Will Gauthier, Jimmy Hutchison, Bill Busch and Dr. Russell Theard. The family would like to express special gratitude for the wonderful care given to Ron by Eldrionna Peterman, Rosa Marie Cormier, and Faye Babineaux, as well as Hospice of Acadiana’s staff and nurse Joeann Harrington.
