Ronald James Mayeux

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, January 30, 2009 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Ronald James Mayeux, 64, who passed away on January 27, 2009 at 7:04 pm at Lafayette General Medical Center. Deacon James Davis, Chaplain of Hospice of Acadiana, will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Holy Mary, Mother of God Cemetery. Mr. Mayeux, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Lance James Mayeux of Plaucheville and the former Lois Cailleteau of Marksville. Ronald was a 1962 graduate of Cathedral High School and a graduate of USL with a degree in Economics. Ronald had a kind and gentle spirit and always saw the good in others. He had a great love for his family and friends. He enjoyed family gatherings, good food and the telephone. He always kept in touch with family members. He was always available when friends called. He was an avid joke teller and kept friends and family entertained. He was blessed to have many close friends who visited him regularly until the very end. He was very devoted to his nieces and nephews who he treated as his own grandchildren. He enjoyed taking them to Olde Tyme Grocery for snowballs, walks to Bordens for ice cream and to Burger King for burgers and conversation. He was interested in their academics and extra curricular activities. He was a very spiritual person and had a great love and respect for the Carmelite Nuns and the De La Salle Christian Brothers and often had prayers offered for his family and friends. He touched everyone's life in a special way and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his mother, Lois Mayeux of Lafayette; one sister, Sandra Mayeux Johnson and her husband, Larry of Carencro; two brothers, David Mayeux of Lafayette and Daniel Mayeux and his wife, Cherryl of Lafayette; two nieces, Cherie Johnson Hebert and her husband, Jimmy of Lafayette and Jill Johnson of Lafayette; one nephew, John Carroll Johnson and his wife, Tiffany of Belle Chasse; three great neices, Jamie Leigh Hebert, Maci Ren'e Moreau and Abigail Elizabeth Johnson; and two great nephews, John Jacob Gauthier and Reese Anthony Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father, Lance James Mayeux. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Friday from 9:00 am until time of service at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette. A rosary will be recited at 1:00 pm on Friday in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Edward "Boogie" Wynne, Wesley Michael "Mike" Wambsgans, James "Spokey" Montgomery, Steve Neef, Adam Austin and Carlton Castille. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Ronald's friends. Special thanks to Dr. Nathan Landry, Hospice of Acadiana, and the doctors, nurses and staff at Lafayette General Medical Center.
