Roy Babineaux

Funeral Services will be held at a 3:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 15, 2011 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Roy "Red" Babineaux, 83, who passed away on January 12, 2011 at 12:15 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Pastor of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Babineaux, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Cleophile Babineaux, Sr. of Vatican, Louisiana and the former Adele Laneaux of Grand Coteau, Louisiana. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He was post commander of VFW post 2103 in Lafayette. During his service in the Navy during WWII, he was stationed on a mine sweeper and finished his enlistment as a naval reservist for 18 years. He was also a member of the Lafayette JayCee's. He was an avid golfer, a member of the S.M.G.A. at Muni and a member of Acadian Hills. He retired after working 34 years for Southern Pacific Railroad and then 15 years for Wal-Mart and Fuji film delivery. He enjoyed both his vegetable and flower gardens. Red was a loving husband, father, and doting grandfather and great grandfather who adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was adored by them. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Guidry Babineaux, of Lafayette; three daughters, Charlotte B. Hollier and husband Glenn of Nina, LA, Suzanne B. Brownlee and husband Robert of Houston, TX, and Micki B. McCord and husband Kevin of Lafayette; one granddaughter, Caitlin Michelle McCord; five grandsons, Justin Michael Hollier, Joshua David Hollier, Bennett James Brownlee, Hunter Louis Brownlee, and Andrew Cameron McCord; two great granddaughters, Chloe and Cadence Hollier; three nieces, Donna T. Haulmann, Hope Annette B. Orthman, and Jackie Cormier and three nephews, John Francisco, and Keith and Scotty Babineaux. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Lula Mae "Babs" Francisco, Lucille B. Tabor, and Ethel Lee B. Burge; one brother, Cleophile "Bob" Babineaux, Jr., and one nephew, Larry Fontenot. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Friday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Friday evening in the funeral home. The family would like to thank Acadian Ambulance, Hospice of Acadiana, Dr. Jeffery Chen, Dr. Gary Guidry, Dr. Leo DeAlvare and the nurses at Our lady of Lourdes on the 4th and 5th floor. Pallbearers will be Glenn Hollier, Robert Brownlee, Kevin McCord, Keith Babineaux, Billy J. Trahan, and Gerald Conques. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rock Trahan, Justin and Joshua Hollier, Bennett and Hunter Brownlee, Andrew McCord, Orel Bridges, Jr., Ralph Young, Francis Corbella, Alvin O'Fleurty, Larry Comeaux, Cary Moore, and Charles "Moochie" Dugas.
