Roy "Pete" Hebert

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 in Delhomme Funeral Home - Chapel of the Flowers for Roy "Pete" Hebert, 83, who passed away on April 15, 2025. Reverend Steve LeBlanc will conduct the funeral services. The burial will take place in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Pete was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and a cherished friend to many. He grew up in the farmlands of Lafayette, where his family worked together harvesting cotton. In his early adulthood, Pete held a variety of jobs—from working in mechanic shops to helping his mother run a downtown diner. In 1968, Pete began what would become a distinguished 32-year career with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department. Rising through the ranks, he retired in 2000 as a Lieutenant and the Chief Juvenile Officer. Pete had a deep passion for working with the youth of Lafayette and was well-respected by both his colleagues and those he supervised. Always committed to providing for his family, Pete later took on a second career at Evangeline Downs, where he retired as Head of Security. There too, he earned the admiration of coworkers through his dedication and kindness. In his full retirement, Pete pursued his love of horses, training and racing thoroughbreds across Louisiana. Yet, above all, he remained a tireless supporter of his family—coaching his sons' sports teams, assisting with his grandchildren, and always being there for his friends. He was also actively involved in several charitable organizations, consistently giving back to his community. Pete lived by his personal motto: “I’ve never met a stranger.” His warmth, generosity, and service left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Pete, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Deusar Hebert and the former Unez Landry. He is survived by his children, Shayne Hebert and wife, Brandie, Shawn Hebert and wife, Andrea, and Sandy Hebert (Lisa Ardeneaux); step daughter, Karrie Boyd; grandchildren, Courtney Bodin, Alondra Hebert, Abbygale Hebert, Liam Hebert, and Bentley Hebert, as well as one sister, Barbara Hebert. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Rose Marie Hebert and Phyllis Hebert; siblings, Audrey LeBlanc, Russell Hebert, Louis Hebert, Larry Hebert, and Priscilla "Dolly" Hebert Peltier. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Chapel of the Flowers on Monday, April 21, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM on Monday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 9:00 AM until the time of service. The Pallbearers will be Mahlan LeBlanc, Courtney Bodin, Liam Hebert, Harris Guidry, Ryan Hernandez, Kevin LeBlanc. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Bentley Hebert and Sal Mohammed.
