Shelia Richard Ringuet Sawyer

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette for Mrs. Shelia Richard Ringuet Sawyer, 65, who passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 5:55pm at her residence in Lafayette. Rev. A. Rex Broussard, Jr. will be the celebrant of the Mass. Reading from scripture will be Cherie Daigle and Lola Champagne. Gift bearers will be Kelly and Camille Guilbeau. Burial will take place immediately following the liturgy in the St. John Mausoleum. Shelia Sawyer was a woman of great faith who devoted her life to raising her children and working with young people. She was a graduate of Louisiana State University, with Bachelor’s degrees in both Education and Nursing. She began her career as a middle school teacher in Lafayette before becoming a registered nurse. She later returned to the teaching profession and was a science teacher and medical first responder at St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette for thirteen years. She was devoted to her students and served as a mentor and guide to many of them. In her capacity as a registered nurse, she also accompanied Lafayette World War II veterans on several Louisiana Honor Air trips to Washington, D.C. After a life of dedicated service to others, Shelia retired to spend her last years with her husband Charles, enjoying gardening, exercising at Red’s, and painting. She was a gifted artist who studied both watercolors and oil painting with Patrick Soper. Shelia is survived by her loving husband Charles Sawyer and her three children: sons, Tyler Ringuet and Ryan Ringuet and wife Heather, and daughter Alicia Ringuet French and husband Doug. She is also survived by her two newborn grandchildren, Adelheid French and Hunter Ringuet, and by her siblings: brothers, Ronnie Richard and wife Gail and Donnie Richard, and sisters, Janet Richard, Jodie Daggett and husband Alan, Charlotte Schexnayder and husband Brian, Janis Guilbeau and husband Tony, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Winston Richard and Patricia Marcantel Richard. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Sunday evening at the funeral home with a Eulogy to follow. Pallbearers will be Ryan Ringuet, Tyler Ringuet, Dr. Tony L. Guilbeau, Ryan Davidson, Doug French and Dan Duhon. The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana and Dr. Molly Thomas and staff for their care and compassion.
