Shirley Gayle Kay

Mary Shirley Gayle Braquet Kay, 87, passed peacefully from this life on January 30, 2022 in College Station, Texas. A wake will be held at Delhomme’s Funeral Home (Bertrand location) on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. There will be a Time of Remembrance at 6:00 PM Friday evening for family and friends to share memories of Shirley, followed by a Rosary starting at 6:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 5, 2022. Rev. Steven C. LeBlanc will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Born December 31, 1934 in Rayne, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Robert and Amy Braquet. She was a resident of Lafayette for 64 years until moving to College Station, Texas. She devoted her life to God, husband and family. She volunteered a tireless number of hours to the betterment of her community through her childrens’ schools and various other organizations. Shirley was most passionate about her Catholic faith and was a life-long parishioner of St. Pius X where she served the church as a member of the Altar Society, P.S.O., Parish Council and a Eucharistic Minister. Her most cherished church activity was singing soprano in the choir. Shirley never missed a choir practice and if she wasn’t singing, you could always find her in the music closet organizing sheet music and choir robes. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, bird watching, puzzles and playing cards. Her true joy was spending time with her family and 14 grandchildren. She will be truly missed by all that knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Amy Braquet, her husband, Ped C. Kay, Jr., a baby daughter, Charlotte Marie, a son, Robert John and her brothers Robert Anthony, Eugene Charles and Carroll John Braquet. Shirley is survived by her children, Stephanie Kay Cashion and husband, William R. Cashion, III, Ped C. Kay, III and wife, Sonia, Stephen Anthony Kay and Rachael Kay Vanderlick and husband, David Joseph and 14 grandchildren - Treivor and wife, Lisa Cashion, Madison Cashion, Greyson Cashion, Kolbe Cashion, Kennedy Cashion, Kingsley Cashion, Zachary Girouard and fiance’, Ashley, Taylor Kay and Ped C. Kay, IV, Sadie Kay, Charlee Kay, Abby Vanderlick, Stella Vanderlick and Eli Vanderlick; one brother, Gerald Joseph Braquet as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ped C. Kay, III, Stephen A. Kay, William R. Cashion, III, David J. Vanderlick, Gregory Braquet and Lawrence Amy. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Braquet, Richard Dunand and Leslie P. Leger.
