Sidney Paul Delhomme

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 30, 2008 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Sidney Paul Delhomme, 91, who passed away peacefully on July 27, 2008 at Magnolia Estates Nursing Home. Internment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette. The Reverend Howard Milligan will officiate the celebration of Sidney's life. Musical selections will be provided by Lance Mergist, Griff Blakewood and Richard Broussard. He was born December 12, 1916 in Carencro, LA to the late Alfred Delhomme and the former Emma Singleton and had been a lifetime resident of Lafayette, Sidney had been retired for some time. He spent much of this, caring for his wife and working along side his son. Sidney was a highly decorated Army veteran of WWII having made three major campaigns, Anzio, Saleron and North Africa. The sobering and humbling stories he told of war will long be remembered by his sons. His courage and unselfishness was unmatched as was his amazing physical strength. His giving nature and kindness will be remembered by his family and friends forever. Every waking hour of his life was dedicated to his family. Sidney was not fortunate enough to have had a father in his life, but made up for it by being the best Daddy in the world. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Eric Delhomme and his fianc', Renee Abshire of Lafayette, Michael David Delhomme and his wife, Tanya of the Woodlands, TX; and two grandchildren, Mathew David Delhomme and Nicole Amiee Delhomme of The Woodlands, TX He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mildred (Sis) Delhomme, his parents, three brothers, Henri, Joseph and Douglas; ten sisters, Marie Louise, Edna Marie, Marie Odile, Marie Gabriel, Rosa Marie, Marie, Sophie Ann, Ann, Marie Marguerite, and Theresa. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Tuesday from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm and continue Wednesday from 8:00 am until services. Pallbearers will be Robie Melancon, Brad Hebert, Steve Sifton, Tommy Leger, Buddy Bert and Claude Kaiser. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Stinson, Noah West, Chad Bourque, Kevin Menard, Robley Dugas and Thomas Johnson.
